This might be a long shot but do you still have the rear bumper that was on your car originally? I have a B310 US spec as well and nobody in NZ has the same rear bumper. Mine differs to yours in that instead of bumpstops I have a rubber strip on the top. If you still have the bumper and aren't using...

Also I tried consulting my Haynes book but it wasn't very clear. Is the wiring that goes from a four pin plug off the main engine harness in to the back of the gearbox (under chassis) the tacho reader? If it is is there anyway of removing this or is this something that's embedded in the gearbox? Ha...
