Re registering a car

Post by unlimitedpower »

Well im thinking of buying a de-regd a 1998 bluebird cheap as and get it re-reged.
Its had money owing on it then got sold to the current owner who then went through the dramas of all that shit etc. The car was then de-reged, he said you can't re register it.
Is that true?

Or can any car be re vinned and re reged?

If not i'll just raid panels off it for my partners car.

if its been registered before it can be re-registered..

i think its a bit more complicated for later model cars..

ive heard that most have to have new pads and discs fitted(or atleast get the discs machined), the entire interior needs to be stripped out, theyl re-sign the seatbelt mounts etc, they wont let you do this either which is BS..this is where the extra costs come in..cos they do it.

its basically the same deal as when it first came into the country..

so quite a job, i used to work in compliance at paul kelly motor co...

if it hasnt been in a prang or anything stupid it should piss through...

I just did this a couple of weeks ago with a '93 primera at youngmans in Christchurch, didn't need to pull all interior out, just the panels covering the pillars and sills and the rear seat bits that cover the rear guards, and stripped all panels out of boot. They let me do it myself which only saved me about $40. Cost me $481 for compliance which included them putting new pads and rotors on for me (I supplied these at a cost of $155 for pads and rotors) Then it cost me $267 ish for six months rego with new plates.

I found in Chch there is quite a difference in cost. AA were $350 and other places were $450, the only downside with AA was there was about a 3-4 week wait to get a car in as they had about 50 booked in at the time.

Because mine had been stolen and recovered they really wanted a repair cert done but I managed to talk them out of this.

Check car jam and see what the reason for cancelling the rego was

That was exactly what i was worried about.
I will probably buy it at least it gives me a better rear bumper than we have now maybe a guard cd player and a couple other things.
The engine id be able to sell for the hole cost of the car so i shouldn't really loose. Just thought if there was more money to be made id re register it and sell complete after swapping bumper etc.

Is there anyway to tell if there is still interest in the car eg from police or finance company with out landing my self in the shit and getting it taken off me?

I don't know the old rego or vin number so can't car jam it but i might ask for that.

yup, go into the local cop shop and get a police interest form done, take in the old reg/vin number..

or pay a carjam fee and get their check done, i used them before..

id be so fucked off if someone repoed a car i just revinned, i think id hunt the fuckers down who owed the money and hit them up about it....
