If 2 Doors wasn't busy as hell with his latest (Non datsun too!) build, I'd say talk to him about bringing it down for him to have a look see.

I really want to see the old girl saved. But it did have the old bubble in cunty-to-fix places. Buy a $40 angle grinder from the warehouse, and pick up a wire brush cup wheel. (with twisted bristles) Then rip into the cancer and see what the extent of the job is. Rust is like a P head. It never sleeps!
They don't call me the man with the rubber arm for nothing you know.............

rust is a cunt. it's almost enough to put me off datsuns. (but not quite)
if that'sall it has I'd say fix it, but like bart says rip into it and expose all the rust then make the decision based on what you find. there's nothing worse than doing a heap of rust repairs then keepfinding more as you go and realise the thing is totally rooted but you've already so far in you feel like you have to keep going. I was lucky to have a spare shell for my sunny and I did exactly what SeEn-ThE_lIgHt said and cut rust patches out of it. Also filled in the sunroof that way. Saved shitloads of fabbing.

The problem with Sunny rust is that often when you start rubbing it back, what looked like a small patch quickly develops into a gaping hole. I'm sure they rust out from the inside at times.
And the metal is so thin that it often distorts when welding.

just expose all the cancer in the roof to start with. it'll only cost you a few hours grinding. Then you caan either cut your losses, or even just tack in some new steel and fix the rest with newtech. As long as the rusty metal has been removed, it cant come back.
When you bring this beast down for the Akaroa cruise, you'll make me a happy man!

once ive finished my non datsun build, ill be bringing it up your way, wont be till after xmas though, by then my rates will be around $150 a day, so if its real bad and you still want the option of keeping it on the road, and can wait till then...... I may be able to help.
