Steve's Prince, Datsun/Nissan collection, past and present

Post by nzmax »

I have been a long time reader and sometimes poster in the Prince Tech section. some of you will have seen my pics on other sites, but thought id share them with those that havent seen them. My 2nd main bottomless moneypit interest, other than cars, is renovating/restoring a 122yr old Villa in Rakaia, which is where im lucky (or unlucky depending on your view) to live. If youve heard the rumour that Rakaia is NZ's biggest unfenced asylum, sadly, its all true....lol.

Always been a Datsun fan. My dads uncle owned Datsuns or Nissans since his 1st 1600 in 1968. He did a mail run for years and had a new Datsun nearly every year. He had numerous 610 180B's, a couple of 200B's, a B310 Sunny, numerous B11 Sunny's, and a couple of Sentras and Pulsars. My neice even has a 1200 Coupe now.

Anyway...the cars...
The current ones:
1962 Prince Skyline Deluxe BLSID-3. Engine is G2 1900cc 4cyl. I have owned it since 1985 and was lucky enough to be given the original Prince radio and toolbox from the 1st owner. Im the 3rd owner. Was sold new to a couple in Rakaia, not far from where I live, and was one of the first cars sold from the first batch imported in 1962. The Skylines are said to be the first Japanese cars sold here.

1963 Prince Skyway W21S-4 In need of a resto, currently stored in the back of my parents shed. (Is the facelift version of my sedan, except in wagon form). Fitted with the G2 1900cc engine also.

1965 Prince Gloria 6 S41E. Engine is G7 OHC 2000cc 6cyl. Sadly is off the road because of the rust in the boot floor underneath the taillights. Have another piece to fix it, just need the time and money. Rest of body is relatively rust free apart from the boot. Have also owned it since 1985 and was my daily driver for 7yrs.

1985 C32 Nissan Laurel 2.4GL 5speed. Sold new in NZ in Dunedin. Im the 5th owner, and has almost travelled 450,000km. 2nd owner had it for 19yrs and really looked after it. Is fitted with the L24S (single carb) engine.

The previous cars....all the ones i wished id kept...lol
1979 Datsun 180B, 810 Facelift

1982 C31 Datsun Laurel 2.4 Hardtop. Sold new in NZ also. Used L24S engine

1985 C32 Nissan Laurel 3.0V6 SGX Hardtop. Sold new in NZ also. Used VG30S (single carb) engine. Not sure why NZ had carb engines when rest of the world got EFI engines in their Laurels

Much to Steve's disapointment, he's going to be abroad untill just after the Akaroa cruise. I bought some wheels off him recently, and he dropped that bombshell.
That blue laurel is in incredible condition for it's age and kms.
They don't call me the man with the rubber arm for nothing you know.............

I get back the day after. Was cheaper to stay another night than find the extra money for the flight home over a long weekend..lol.

Kind of gutted really, although there will be others :)
