Re: Insurance reccomendations
I have the ute insured with AMI for 6K, but am thinking of changing as once they see it i'm not confident they would pay out if anything happened.
Not sure i agree with the self insurance thing..................what happens if you do happen to have an accident that is your fault and do some serious damage to an expensive car or building? I would always recommend 3rd party at least

Re: Insurance reccomendations
3rd party should have to be a legal requirement to be on the road, accidents are called such because you cant (or shouldnt plan them) putting money away each month would pay off in the long run, but what happens if you have an accident 10 months down the road, would your $400 cover the cost of a rear end repair? AmI tried to tell my wife that a scratch on a bumper of a 2001 honda came to $920, I told them I was a coachbuilder, demanded to see the damage report, of which they took photos, and found thet were trying to claim on old damage not conclusive to the recent accident, in one photo, the bumper reinfoceing was rusty, and the accident had only occured 5 days beforehand, I told them I would only pay $400 , the cost to repair the section (2 inch scratch) paint and labour, at those sort of rates the cost of repairing or replaceing someone elses car, if you actually hit it hard, would mount up far quicker than the $40 a month of savings.
Just my 2 cents, I can understand why people are reluctant to insure, when it does seem to be a waste of money.

Re: Insurance reccomendations
It's less reluctance and more value for money. I can only insure my 1200 for $900 according to AMI, and that is the list price for a SSS. Each person is different, but if you have the money for insurance, then I wouldn't waste my time... I'm more worried about theft as I hardly drive my Datto more than accident.2 doors wrote:3rd party should have to be a legal requirement to be on the road, accidents are called such because you cant (or shouldnt plan them) putting money away each month would pay off in the long run, but what happens if you have an accident 10 months down the road, would your $400 cover the cost of a rear end repair? what if you drive into a new Bently? or a Lamborghini or something? Or you hit a taxi and you have to pay his loss of income while his car is off the road being repaired, as well as the cost of the repairs? You'd have to be saving for decades to pay for it.

Re: Insurance reccomendations
I definately reccomend 3rd party insurance atleast.
I insure my vehicles with AA as Im a member with them. not the best for value but they always pay agreed value and normally pay within 48 hours of accident.
I learnt the hardway Im still paying off a ute I had a accident with. It was a both at fault crash but I was told I was at fault and couldnt argue it as I was knocked out so yea

Re: Insurance reccomendations
Thanks for the replies. So I will be talking to Swan insurance in the first instance when shit opens again after new years.
I am gonna get third party for the mazdabater and full coverage for the Datsun to hopefully an agreed value (what it has cost me to build so if something happened I could redo it!)
