Not sure if you are aware Mike but there are 2 types of R31 struts. Best are the import turbo model HR31 struts, the RB20DET powered cars. (like the one I picked up to strip, struts not available as Im using em)

Way to tell difference is HR31 import struts have 100mm bolt spacing and disc size is: 274x22mm These will take any of the 4 pot later skyline calipers R32 R33 etc

australian R31 (which are the common as mud ones) have bolt spacing 89mm I think and disc size is: 250x22mm wont straight swap for any 4 pots.

This article may be of interest for those interested in R31 Struts.

Z31 struts should be easy to come by and also have the 100mm bolt spacing, i believe they are close enough in length that an R31 shock insert may fit ( don't quote me on that = needs confirmed )

The standard Z31 Brakes and hubs are a bit pissy 274x22mm but they seem to pull up my 1500kg Z pretty well from some pretty decent speeds. I would imagine in an 1000 kg datsun they are more than plenty ( no Bling factor of 4 pots though )

please excuse my thread hijack > i thought i read z31 strut mixed in there somewhere.......

As it also says in that link when using Z31 struts you have to use Z31 steering arms due to bottom mount spacing, this could cause a headache with steering dimensions etc. Also as it says upgrading the rotors will be difficult and suggests using HR31 hubs.

Cheers boys.

I looked into using Z31 struts but like Flauski said you need to use the lower arms as they have a different bolt spacing down the bottom of the strut. I wasn't keen for this as I was afraid it would push my hub outwards and I'd have to run positive offset rims. Although just think about it, maybe this would be a good way to solve the positive camber issue that both my 610s seem to have...

I did think about trying to find a set of the turbo struts, but my sedan just runs standard discs and calipers and it pulls up no problems at all. These struts are only going into my wagon, and it will probably remain L powered, so I don't think I need to go overboard on the brakes.
Hopefully all going well I should pick up some struts this weekend :D

Ive got a set of the 89mm bolt spacing struts been stripped ready for the new spring seats to go on.
I want a set of the 100mm ones so i can run factory Z31 brakes in my car which is what i really want to use. Because then it gives me the option to swap to a 5stud front easily while keeping everything completely bolt on stock looking.
If you can find some 100mm Bolt spacing ones i'll swap you mine with cash your way.
