Got the Wof, but have had to make a dash to Mates Mothers funeral in Invercargill, so will be driving the trustie twelvie! to Rakaia. What a wee beaut. Av. speed Pak n save Moorhouse to BP on Duners 'one way' South 55mph, 40+mpg. I'm impressed. Caught a tow from an SS Comm for the last bit to Riverton, (South Coast), any cops were taken care of so speeds were between 80-90, and fuel still pretty good, but Av speed improved heaps.
Hopefully not totally deaf from 4speed by Saturday and can enjoy catching up and telling some lies.

820 miles, sweet as. Bit rough in town, and 2-3000rpm idle in Invercargill was a challenge. (Idle Adjuster now locked off).
Really pleased with how it's gone.
Great cruise to Rakaia.
Thought I should post a Now Photo.

12ie has lost it's stutter and isn't nervy anymore. I wasn't prepared to venture out into Christchurch's broken streets with the 12ie running so wild. So with a bit of down time and no kids to worry about it was time for a cam change.
What a difference, doesn't really like 60mph in 2nd anymore, but doesn't mind 20 in 4th, which is a big change, previously 45mph was where 4th started, anything slower and she bucked and carried on. Still spins nice but has so much more bottom and mid range punch, I'm loving the throttle response from the twin SUs.
So that's 6 cars going, one to go, although I do have a small repair on the race car and of course ongoing development when $$$ allow.
The 240z is finally running well and warranted, but I didn't get it insured before the quake, so it will be sitting the month out, hopefully no more big shakes.

I sit here with a quiet satisfied feeling, one more project getting to the finished stage. (only Quake damage to repair)

Don't give up, it will feel as good as you imagine when you finally get in it and go for that first drive!

The Shame has gone! No longer can you tell if it is my 1200 by the fact it's the one trailing the smoke! Changed valve stem seals and problem solved! Thanx Kitch for the seals and Bart for a loan of the fitting tools.

Oh.
Something has just occoured to me. Were the seals the umbrella type, or the type with the positive seal on them? In the past, I had the inner springs fret a set of umbrella type seals.

They were the positive seal type, well they all started out that way, 2 were pretending to be the umbrella type and one had failed completely losing it's top. The one that failed was on the first cylinder I did, so was very encouraging to find.
Feels really good driving around now, I had been very conscious when driving, so it was spoiling the experience, and the "Datsun" image.

A Blast from my past, a Mate gave me this recently, it shows my 1200 in the Dunedin Rally of Otago in the early '90s, probably 1991 I'd think. Since the early '70s I'd wanted one of these, I'd been brought up next to a forest on one of the best rally roads in the south as Rallying became popular, Mike Marshall inspired me, all I wanted to be when I grew up was a rally driver. This was my dream come true, a12 bored to 1287cc's Dellorto's. I managed to win the club champs in 1991, with some reasonable class results in rallys till the car was written off on the West Coast late in the season, (Club season, first round of Mainland Rally Series), when an Escort backed onto the road in front of us. Not much worth saving by the end of that, kept the diff head, engine and box. Those were the days.
