620 info

Post by rxtoy »

hey, just bought a LWB single cab 620 and i'm trying to improve the brakes, along with a few other things. is there a bolt on booster, and front discs would be pretty sweet too. i can handle machining stuff if i need to, but i'd rather it was only off the road for a day or two for swapping stuff because its meant to be my daily.

also lowering tips are welcome, and i think its running a J15, how hard is it to get a decent set of twin carbs and whats the timing meant to be set at?

cheers

Gain low via tortion-bars and block the back. Boosters are reonownd to be crap but unaware of any straight swaps, nor twin-carb manifolds

you can either swap a whole early 720 chassis or just use the disc brakes like I have on my pickup, you will need the 3/4? booster aswell. check here for a look.

yeah, i heard that about the mgb manifolds, just wanted to confirm it because it was 3rd hand info.

not keen on a chassis swap, legal difficulties make it not worth it in West Australia. my 620 isn't even boosted, so anything will be better than what i've got. might have to look into a hub swap for the front and just go 5 stud if brakes aren't gonna be that easy, having heaps of fun at work lately with a CNC mill and lathe so should be able to whip something up. just need some spare time!

any idea what model MG's i should be looking for for carbs???

cheers

ones with B series engines, I got a twin manifold if your willing to pay for shipping on top of $100nzd for it. Just one point tho the B series engines are 1800's so the ports are about 5 mm lager in diameter than the J15's

D21 Navara complete front hubs are a bolt on uprgade if you have the latter 79/80' 'facelift' 620 with the balljoint chassis. A 720 master cyl/booster fits with minor modification to the mount and the inner gaurd needs a few taps to accomodate the bigger booster. I have this setup on my 620 and it works well.

Mines a 74 so no go on the navara stuff.

Do the B series engines bolt in? Could be an easy upgrade, and my 1500 already leaks oil like mad so an English motor would be quite fitting.
