Rota has been making rims for longer than I have been working (well full time anyway) 30 years now. They have been manufacturing rims for OEM aka factory alloys on Japanese cars for many many years.

Put damaged rims into context too. Did the car crash first and the rim got damaged? Anything can be doctored on the interweb these days...look at a youtube clip about going from flab to fab in 5 hours....looks like many other lose weight before and after...the difference he went backward. Worked out at the gym took the before photo first then blobbed out..point if you did not know it was backwards it would look like all other before/after purchase our program deal.

I have seen many well know brand of rim fail at the race track this is not limited any one manufacture - and some are those that have spend $$$ on R&D like you say. Some costing up to $1000 a Rim..

There are also standard that must be met JWL for alloy rims sold in Japan. Rota have these casting on...well RK-R sample I have (I will confirm 100% in the morning if you like)

see here for info on the JWL standard and VIA testing http://www.cartype.com/pages/2101/jwl_s ... loy_wheels" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

What does this mean?

Do Rota deliberately try to sell their wheels to customers who think they're buying genuine Watanabes?

good question. I'm wondering the same thing.

Most shit hot performance wheels (Including the known brand name ones) were never intended for the shithouse roads we have here in NZ. I've heard that it's not overly hard to make some factory subaru alloys go a bit out of round. And the mrs 17" MOMO's on her car, one has a flat spot. It's the nature of the beast. And as said above, even the "welll established" brands fail. So when you're having your skidded out tyres changed, and the tyre guy says, "shit bro, this rim is on the way out!" I'd rather only have to cough up $300, rather than $1K for a replcement.

Perhaps I should stick with cheviot tridens?

And If I didn't have a car seat, cot, baby moniter, etc,etc to buy, I'd quite seriously consider a set of these.

???
Surely reading this Bart if you had a cot car seat and baby monitor you would only consider the 'name brands' or Tridents. (3 Dents)

Cheers Ging.
I judge each thing by it's own merits. Not everything that costs more is better.
When the time comes, I wouldn't hesitate to run wheels such as these on my 510.

True....I did feel like pulling this off this forum after the BS that has gone on.

I did this for the 240z/260z guys that like me want to run our race cars with a period correct sized rim aka 15 and yet still allow almost 310mm rotors This is a hard ask for most 15" rims and even my Genuine RS Watanabes at 16" that size brake setup does not work without large spacers. The NZ rota agent has been great to deal with and this has taken a number of months to get pull together. There is a minimum order of 40 uints aka 10 sets of rims and I had already arranged with the ZClub 6 set going to a few members. I did not have to post here as I only needed to sell 6 set for this deal to happen with the NZ Rota Agent happy to sell the remaining sets him self - either via Dealers or a trademe auction I assume.

So it was out of courtesy that I posted here as, having owned a number of Datsun over the years, I thought members here might want a set of these rims in this offset. And you are right I was thinking why did I bother.

Some member here might know me from when Datsun.co.nz was around and I was a regular poster back then - offering information about zed and other things Datsun....however some might have noticed I also went back and removed all my posts and put "deleted" in the message - Why - just like the BS that as gone on in this thread I got sick the stupid and personal attacks that happened - none which was directed to me I might add, it was just not how grown-up should behave.

I am a 40 year old with 3 kids and don't have time to waste with 2 Datsun projects time important and I don't spend enough time in the shed as it is.....So having to type a long post like this....well....enough said already....

Just want to point out there has only been one poster replying in the negative. I would hate for the rest of us to be painted with the same brush.

Good luck with the group buy, and thanks for thinking of us.
