Moving my 510

Post by broke »

Ok I need to move my 510 so that I can actually show people something when I say I have a Datsun. This also involves moving most of this crap you see here that used to be attached to it.

I need to supervise the whole move myself as the car's all in pieces and has no brakes or steering fitted and I don't trust anyone else to touch it.

I want to fit the doors etc (not perfectly, just roughly, split some hose and put it all around the door edges etc, thanks Hydraulink!) for the trip, then wrap the whole thing in that shrinkwrap stuff and trailer it ideally using a van or station wagon to to tow it.

My main issue is getting some kind of 1 way hire deal for a trailer so that I only need to do 2 ferry trips instead of 4, Hirequip said no, does anyone need to deliver a trailer to the South Island in the next few months, or is anyone trying to sell one in the North Island that I could sell on their behalf in the South? I would buy one just for the trip, but I'm too Jewish for that.

Anyone able to help, or have a better plan? Until I get my baby down I'll just have to sit here listening to Joy Division and the Sisters of Mercy and cutting myself and writing bad poetry to ease the pain. And nobody wants that.

Cheers homies.

And here's most of the crap still in my container - the engine isn't there now though.

Does it have rear suspension? Could you transport a bogey for the front and tow it home that way? Cheaper ferry too. Alternatively you could hire. A small truck; might be cost effective.

Could of course borrow a trailer down here, only 2 ferry crossings.

I'm liking that bogey idea, it does have rear suspension in, any ideas what the legal requirements are? I think with an A-frame the car you're towing has to be reg/wof, is it the same deal as that?

Otherwise I might have to try to find someone with a trailer I can borrow.

With an 'A' frame the vehicle being towed does not require rego, I have a copy of the fact sheet at home, but can't find it on the net, will check it out for you over the weekend, but as far as I am aware provided it is a car, you can tow it.

Dolly Trailer in the back of a van or ute - only one extra cost on way back.

(spose thats what a boggy is??) A FRAMES are poo's tried that + might go west / come off more than a dolly trailer.
