what about getting some custom made by mrp like dan did for his 1600. They were $690, way cheaper than building your own

Got in touch with Barry at MRP

"We are now using the Fortune Auto coilovers to do these types of conversions.
The coilovers are $875 incl GST. If you cut them then welding is $40.
If you need an xray cert on the welding thats $120."

He must have been getting too many people asking for it haha. I think ill do some research and see if s13 stuff will be short enough, and then get the adaptor boss made to suit.

I got this quoted from Evan Pittman

Hi.
The shocks from the black struts if are in good condition look to be short enough.
Threaded collars, springs and keep springs and top alloy locator hats. $320 pr
To cut, shorten the struts to utilise you shock inserts from black struts, weld prep and paint $390. There is a bit of time in removing the section to utilise the factory top thread and nut as this is what holds the inserts in place.
We have to carry out a crack test report for LTSA requirements. This is for a load carrying weld which is the for the spring perch. This is $110
Finished coilovers will look pretty like picture attached.

Let me know if you have any questions

Thanks

Just a tip for the crack testing.

Southern QA in Christchurch do the testing and they can complete the correct paperwork for LVVTA requirements, and give you a full copy of the report.
Getting one thing tested costs about $100, and after that each additional item is $5, so it pays to have all your cert related welded tested.
The Answer to your Question is NEEDS MORE VG30

my cert guy said he did not need my struts crack tested, he was happy just to inspect welds, as long as I gave him the welder guys ticket details
