Gas bonnet struts for 1600
Re: Gas bonnet struts for 1600
Interesting project, a few years ago while looking for trailer locks I found http://www.selectlok.co.nz/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
These guys where super helpful and can do struts to suit. If you know your dimensions and bonnet weight they should be able to supply something. Conversely I am sure you could find something off a wreck but most old car struts are at best half stuffed anyway.
Good luck, I am keen to follow your project.

Re: Gas bonnet struts for 1600
Thanks for that,I will post up what ever I find, this is one of many projects on this build.
Ticking them off the list slowly.
I have got some short struts all ready which are sweet, from a Staga spare wheel cover, I've heard the Honda EG Civic hatches have about the
right length and they're easy re-gas with a mobile service here in Hamilton too.

Re: Gas bonnet struts for 1600
This job can be crossed off the list, very easy mod.
To be honest there really aren't any critical measurements on this, just make sure they are the same on both sides
Parts used were the Stabulius Liftomat #7549TH with 300NM pressure, (but Im going to get this taken up to about 330 as its a
bit light but does hold it)and 4x Of the threaded balls
Bonnet goes to 33 degrees which I think is fine for general maintenance(oil water check etc) any thing else, undo two clips and the bonnet can be lifted to vertical if required.
Placement

Good result
Re: Gas bonnet struts for 1600
A very good result after our earlier posts I considered the strut tower and thought this isn't going to be that easy..........boy was I wrong, you make it look so easy. I always liked the factory support, simple yet so much better than the fold out arms most cars use. My race car was a problem, the strut brace fowls the factory support so the bottom edge on the bonnet part was removed, then I made my trailer just a fraction to low so to get the bonnet open with the car in the trailer I had to shorten the factory unit. Your design at 33 degees will be perfect.. Thank you, as I said a very good result.
