Re: James Z31 Revival
It sure was Dave ,Very pleased to have the car in one piece and that we didn't put a rod through the block going up Burkes pass.
I was lucky it happened at the Twizel house and not on the road with a foot full of boost up it.

I'd be very curious as to the exact nature of the failure.
They don't call me the man with the rubber arm for nothing you know.............

Re: James Z31 Revival
DJ and I got this thing back in the shed yesterday.
I'm going to look at stripping it back down, this weekend and getting the engine out and on the bench. I need to get a 3-4" mic and some standards. From there I am expecting to see some taper in the bore and then i need to decide which pistons to order.

Nothing Yet Bartman
Engine is ready to come out, I just have to do the dance of the spacing down the cross member, to get the extended sump out of the way so the thing can actually come out.
I'm needing to find a 3-4 Micrometer which I'm having trouble sourcing at a reasonable price.
I'm just really over it and dragging the chain a little bit, the exhaust was also more damaged than i first through Parts that i have recently re made will need done Again again.

Hey i can borrow a 3-4inch metric Micrometer from work for the weekend if you need, they just have to be back on the monday
You wouldn't have that problem with a V8!!!!

Re: James Z31 Revival
I might take you up on that once its all stripped down. DJ offered me the same in a metric but all of my other mics are imperial so it seemed an idea to stick with one set of units.
I still need to buy one, just not spending $220 + on a brand new one that i wont use very often.

Re: James Z31 Revival
Engine Rebuild is well underway. Its funny because I'm right back to page 1 of this build thread.
Quite a lot of measuring and blueprinting going on here.
I'm really suffering only having one vehicle and i need this Z Back ASAP, but I'm balancing that by not leaving any stone UN turned - in terms of detailed measuring and assembly.
This is just a test Assembly, then it all comes apart for the rotating assembly to be dynamic balanced with the flywheel, clutch and harmonic damper.
Bart has had good success with HPC coated pistons in a boost application so I am going to do the same, The 9:1 Compression pistons Should give this thing heaps of Go compared to the 8:1 pistons it had before. This will limit the boost somewhat but its going to be more responsive.

Re: James Z31 Engine Blueprinting
Looking good James
Maybe just need to add a couple of bores to one end while it is out.
Great to see Datsun's being worked on in winter, I'll be working in mine later today...............
