Thanks for the replies. I am looking at getting a few mandrel bends from woolf mufflers in AKL.

Just would have been nice to have the tools to bend stuff up myself.

Looks like you've sussed it but anyway..

For the price of pre made bends you may as well just buy them these days.

Pretty sure Woolf Mufflers get most of their stuff from Autobend in East Tamaki

I sold tube benders for years the old "blake" type push benders are useless for anything but nominal bore pipe. Leabourn & Rose are probably the best in NZ for tube benders with their Ercolina range. Still out of reach for anyone not going to bend tube commercially though

yeah, you could try sand filling them, but i think ideally you will need a gas plant/LPG to heat the bends so the can stretch without deforming.
Im hoping to give this a go in the next month or so. I'll post up how I get on/might even get off my ass and write a tutorial

Sand bending works great but always use dry sand...any moisture when heated will create steam...hence pressure ....and boom you'll blow the end out of your tube...
