I can get you one for $280 and then you will have to pay freight to chch. Some will be able to get it slightly cheaper but not much (maybe $10 to $15 dollars) I buy from a guy not supplier and when I was getting from supplier they were $248 before tax increase plus freight.
AVS S5 which is the 5 star unit.

AVS S5 is mint I also had the add on extra where it would txt me if alarm went off. I paid $500 for mine fitted so that is a pretty good price. They are recognised by all Insurance companies as 5 star and knocked $24 a week of my premiums

sweet, I will put that price to him and see if hes keen (its for a mate......but its only a Hilux lol, so unsure if he wants to spend too much)
but on the other side, I wouldn't bother installing a alarm for him if it wasnt a insurance recognised one.

I have looked at few stolen cars at tow yards and auctions. Doesnt matter what type of alarm you have or how much you spend if some one wants your car they will get it. Bad alarm installs are to common. I used to time my self while I did repairs or if I had to bypass a system. Most cases I had the "brain" out and open within 30 to 120 seconds. I hate theives and I used to poor alot of love into peoples cars to make them as safe as poss, Its nice to see cars Ive worked on still driving around 5 years later.
I did a AVS alarm last week on a toyota carib, All looms were run through dishwasher pipe, siren was under the head light which I had to remove to put in.
The AVS comes with alot of spare wires so I loomed those up and run to random spots as dummies. I also run some wires to ground and attached the old fuel line wires to them as I have seen alligator clips run from the battery to fuel wires on recovered cars.
If you looked under the dash you couldnt tell if there was some thing there or where it might be.
Few things to think about any way.

You can buy GPS locators for bugger all now too.

Good call, Any one can probe around here. I was looking through an old performance car mag today and the siren was cable tied to the strut brace.

I think Uniden is good value for money, and has a "star rating" recognised by insurance companies.

But the flashest alarm, and all the hidden kill switches you can fit in your car, still won't stop them towing it.

A few years ago there was a spate of rotary thefts in HB (everyone knew who was doing it). One owner completely disabled his car, including removing the wheels and sitting it on blocks while locked in his garage. The thieving scum broke in, saw they couldn't steal it, so jumped all over it and kicked in all the panels.

Rotary theives are douchebags. When I owned one, If I went some where are got drunk I used to sleep in it with the alarm on and the steering lock on. One time I was asleep in a pub carpark, and my mate (who was sober driving us home) couldn't wake me up. (On account of me being too drunk) So he's banging on the window with the alarm going off and everyone watching with me reclined fast asleep.
