yea thats wat im thinking now ay it only needs new oil rings the rest is peachy as the skirts maybe worn on pistons but i dont think it will matter. it has 195 psi compression on all 4 cylinders it just smokes like a bitch but has new stem seals so it must be oil rings. whats a set of oil rings and bottom and top end gasket set worth??

Youd replace the bearings too as a matter of course.
While it's not a big job, I'd look at borrowing another car while you do the overhaul. There are many variables that may not rear their ugly head untill the motor it in bits. Although the good static compression does lead one to think that the oil mcontrol rings have lost their tension. (common to do in an overheat) But if a motor gets too hot, the pistons expand too much in the bores, and the oil gets forced out from between the piston skirt and the bore wall. This Can leave vertivcal gouges in the psiton skirt.
Bit saying your engine will have these, but I wouldn't bank on it not having them also.

bores are amazing checked them wen fixing the broken valves can still see light hone marks from a bottle brush hone at some stage and pistons seem tight in bores so i can only put smoking down to stuck or worn oil rings the oil pressure wen driving sits shy of 90psi so im guessing bearings a pretty mint also.

ooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh yea i scored me an apparently mint L18 and 4spd starter and alternator fo $100 :D only thing i need now is a front cover cos the idiot driving the car smashed it and broke the dizzy out taking part of the housing with it so if anyone can help with that im keen as a bean to get this motor in my car asap

Hey all,

I also need a L18 or prehaps a L20b

Am willing to pay good money for a good runner or would also buy a motor needing a freshen up.



I recently brought a "recent reco" L18 of trademe for 600 :o when I went and picked it up guy said he thought it had been recod cause it had been painted :strangle: :baseballbat:
So I chucked in the new motor and it smokes worse than my old one and uses almost as much oil as petrol grrrrrr
All good though I can rebuild the motor I took out right?.....wrong......striped that down and its only a L16 :thumbsdown:

So that is why I need another L18.
