so im pretty useless at updates in general but
i jumped in a paid for an OS track day and thought yeh ill get this thing going but i failed at track day. i was about ready to turn the key and try start it but that was 11am the day the track day was on haha. so i gave up and ill finish it in a slightly more thorough fashion now. but it has got me very close to being running.
so here is a mash of pics of where it was at the morning of the track day. had tonnes left to do really. but its painted and it wasnt to bad for my first time painting but there is a few runs and some patches where i layed it on to thin and it has gone rough. luckily i brought way to much paint so im going to let it harden and in the mean time finish my boat. Then i will wet and dry it back and fix my fuck ups and paint it properly in the day time this time so i get decent lighting and it should be mint.
PAINT!
Fuel
megasquirt
my sweet little seat dad gave me.
inlet all plumbed up mostly
so yeah pretty much a bunch of tidying up to do now and tune it.
sorry tony i guess it seems we have probably built fairly similar cars now but mine was white first haha.

yeah! I need to get in carhoots with you sometime on an intimate level about megasquirt setup as I shall have similar (ITBs and MSII but not GTR ones.)
How are you doing the ignition side of things? Is that a turbo L28 dizzy (with inbuilt CAS) I see?

Im running a MS1 with MSNS firmware. I have in built the a single coil high current driver to it so the MS can directly fire the coil. And yes that is an optical dizzy to provide crank angle/tach input to the megasquirt. Its all pretty basic to get going, you have any questions when the time comes just give me a yell.
Should have this started and idling this weekend i hope.

I was also thinking about putting RB26 ITBs on my L28 in a similar fashion. Are you going to use the plenum as well? and swap the inlet side on it? Did you give much thought to runner length after the injector bungs? Have you modified the ITBs for anything else? What else was good/bad about it?

nah im not using the plenum, open trumpets sound far too awesome to run a plenum. i just brought the throttle bodies and linkages as getting the plenum can be some what hard as most keep that and put a single throttle body on it and ditch the ITBs.
do you mean runner length before the injectors? as after the injectors is about as close as i could get them to the head and that's it. it's got big 80mm long trumpets to go on it also which are not shown. i based the over all length of the manifold on a triple carburetor manifold i had and have now sold. the length is the same as that (carb manifold + webber side draft + 40mm trumpets = current length).
i didnt have to touch the ITB's at all, they are exactly as they came of the RB26. i just laser cut matching plates and made the manifold around them. i opted to do it this way as this is how i could do it using all my resources and not having to pay any one to make it. the manifold cost me nothing but materials and a little bit of laser cutting (i worked for the laser cutter at the time so it was cheap)
the way i see it there is 2 ways you could have gone about it. the way i have done it and cut plates and shape pipes and welded them all together and tidy it all up with a die grinder. the merit to this way is the only flash piece of equipment you need is a welder that can weld alloy. all the rest of it is just plain old metal work any one with an angle grinder and hack saw and so on can do.
the other way to do it is the way R30guru is doing it and that is to make molds and everything, then have it cast, then spend hours on a milling machine making it all good. as both ends need to be faced. then many holes need to be bored for things like injectors, throttle bodys to bolt up and so on. the merit to this is you have something that looks very professional, the down side is the cost and the machines needed to make a manifold this way.
so the main driving factor for me was i did not have the money. i opted for the megasquirt setup in the first place as i did not want to spend $2k~ on a tripple carb setup which is how i was originally going to do it.

I was more curious about the length after the injector, before the head. As I've heard it, longer/thinner = low rpm torque, shorter/wider = higher top end. So was wondering if you had put much thought or testing into it since you seem to be fairly clued up about what you're doing. End of the day ITB and tuneable ecu is going to mean heaps more power so its not really something that needs much attention unless your doing drags or something.
