dont think anybody has even bothered organising a taupo meet this year.
i think the north island would be struggling to get many takers as usual.
i know of 3 datsun owners within a couple of km's of me here, and they dont show up to any local meets :|
its a shame Auckland is such a long way from Akaroa!

a few guys up this way met up for nisfest at hampton downs, and i think its more likely to meet up with people there.

Not wanting to offend but pick up on your sentiment, "Nationals" are often held in Auckland, EG the so called New Zealand Festival of Motor racing this year. Aucklanders are happy to attend it it's in their back yard, but if it is south, where you have to get off the Motorway, they won't support it. A bit of a challenge for the CHCH crew to support a cruise to another part of the South Island, say Winton? OR Wanaka maybe, something people can converge on from all directions.
I admit a longer cruise is a bit more of a commitment, but lets be honest most of our cars are well up to a cruise right around the Island, Reliability, that's what Datsuns are famous for! Along with wind noise, yes it would be a long way in a B110, but I've had mine to Invercargill twice in the past year. (4 speed and all)
Sorry for the rant, but something to think about. Aucklanders aren't the only ones who have plenty to do, and I appreciate the effort made by the likes of the Oamaru guys to get to the ChCh cruises, but feel we are missing out on getting to know members from further a field that we could meet on cruises in other areas.

How did this become an Aucklander thing we were wondering about the Taupo meet! Taupo is about 4 and a half hours drive in the Datsun from where i am so im not afraid to take the car for a bit of a road trip and me and the Datsun hate the motorway so thats got nothing to do with it

I do not begrudge you guys having the nationals down there in fact i wish i lived allot closer because you guys always seem to have heaps of great stuff on

So leave out the JAFFA bashing i thought this was supposed to be about Datsuns and good times

I think Classicdat was actually agreeing with you, as stated in (PICKING UP THE SENTIMENT) OF YOUR THREAD,

Akaroa has become the nationals, because the people who turn up average, 50 plus cars, and up to a hundred odd people at a time.
Its a numbers game, and often goes late into the night, spread over a couple of days, garage days, ect ect .just gets better and better.

not sure on the Taupo of thing, Generally just needs a few like minded people to agree to a time and place to meet, and hey presto you have a meet,

anyone thought of having alternate island venues each year so one year in the south one year in the north. If people saved up there would be a lot of sweet roads cruised.

Good to hear Kane, You will be looked after down here and so will any other North Islanders wishing to make it down.
And yeah it is a numbers thing. We can rattle up 50 datsun in Chch alone.
Hell we have got 15 Datsuns from 8 members on my block!

I recomend living here to anybody . Fuck the earthquakes!

Somebody from the north needs to step up and organise a north island meet for labour weekend. I fully repsect that there are going to be people that simply can't come down here for our meet. So there needs to be a meet for these people.
If anyone is keen to be that person, by all means please start a thread to organise it. I get a warm fuzzy from seeing other datsun peeps doing their thing too.

That said, if anyone from the north wants to drive, fly, hitch, carpool, or teleport down to CHCH for our meet up, we'll gladly roll out the welcome mat.
They don't call me the man with the rubber arm for nothing you know.............

you're dead right Bart.

hope someone does, i did it 2 years back, and it wasnt too bad a turn out.
but yeah, i would of hoped a few more would have come along ...
i didnt make last years though due to illness, and doubt i'll make this year, if there is a meet either, as ive got primo RWC tickets

trying to organise events up here is not so easy. i guess it's starting to show how few datsuns there are left up this way,
the last one i did was for the oldschool meet in Auckland. only 4 cars turned up for a event in our own backyard
with two of them belong to the same guy.
now im sure there's more than that in Auckland

people up here (Auckland im speaking of) seem far less enthused about meets like these unfortunately.

personally i'd prefer to head down to Akaroa for a one off national meet. have always been keen to do it, but would prefer to do it in my datsun than my S12(which would need a mortgage to get it there in gas anyway)
maybe next year...

Taupo is also busy on long weekends with multisport, marathons, cylceraces and boat racing...you name it, which makes me think somewhere else would be better, maybe even rotorua??? which is close and probably easier to get accomadation(and better backroads ;) )
