Can I hijack Shane's thread for just a moment, and ask how do you separate the tin shroud inners?

Did you make your shafts too long, or too short Shane? If they're too short, rejigging your CV's to compensate will create some pretty unkind CV angles.
They don't call me the man with the rubber arm for nothing you know.............

So Shane the axle splines on the CVs are the same for the 3x2 and the tin shurroud cvs is that right?
correct

Bart.... those tin hat cvs you have to peel back the tin from the difff side and then silicone seal it up when you put it back together because the o ring seal is gunna get recked under tin sheild im dutch or just go by new o ring ...i didnt try bying new tin sheild but im guessing they wont be avalible

what i had set up origanaly was the 3x2 outer cv and the tin hat inner cv now the 3x2 has a spring to push up the axle and the tin hat cv doesnt have a spring so this meant the axle sat right up into the tin hat cv ...the tin hat cv can allow the axle to slide in and out alot and what i am hoping with the z31 inner cv is that by the look off the design it will hold the axle in one possition and further away from the diff and hoping this will be enough for me .............

Have you tried flipping the CV races around ?

If you do it at both ends this can have a reasonable shortening effect on the axles if they are still a bit long

also this is worth a decent read in regard to CV's and Axles

you will need to make an account but its probably worth while

shaft length is 405mm give or take, including the extra overhang past the circlips that retain the cv.

also its a 6 ball type cv. always thought they were 5 for some reason.

looking at it, i dont think the inners will give you any more length, as they appaer much the same.
the shaft itself is shorter than the 3X2 shafts, and flipping the outer cv gains arounf 1/2 an inch.

if you want any other measurements, let me know...

p.s.dont have a 3X2 shaft in bits to compare sorry.
yep same teeth count and diameter

yeah my luck would be that the z31 have the same offset as the tin hat cvs

the z31 turbo inners are fixed, no end float if thats what you needed to know...

i have got a 3X2 axle with a rooted inner cv boot. can try and figure out if it really is the same as the z31 inner as far as spacing goes, if you want?

im surprised the shafts are the same spline, as the r30 ones "seem" smaller(cant get in to measure one).

what companion flanges are you using? im guessing r30 ones?

edit: 3X2 r30 axle on the left ond z31t inner cv on right.

the circlip on the z31t shaft sits maybe 3 or 4 mm inside the edge on the cup.

hey mate what i have done in my mucking around with these axles is i have a 3x2 cv on the outer and fitted a 3x2 in the inner then what i find is my axle is two long and will need to cut down the springs inside cvs to run them this way at the moment for me is looking promising

If you are making axles to suit a R200 VLSD Center conversion with R30 3X2 style outer CV i did that but just used a matched pair for both the inner and outter CV for example used to Outter CVs from an R30 or R31 axle then i think inners where S13 or something like that. They are floating both ends are and are interchangeable as to which way round they are fitted. (i did fit them the same way round though). I haven't driven car yet but they seem to stay right in the center of there range of movement over all ranges of suspension travel etc.

I tried to use latter model stuff where possible as figured if something ever needs replacing might be easier to find. I really should have written everything down that i have used in my car as ive forgotten where alot of stuff has come from and in 10years time if a part needs replacing it could be rather tricky.

yeah i may have to go that way with 3x2 inner and outer and cut down the spings inside cvs to fit my axle ......and yeah my thoughts are to go modern becaues i had r30 tin hat cvs and now want z31 ............
