Having built a pretty ruthless a series engine, and knowing all the pitfalls that go with it, I wouldn't hesitate to go for a twin cam turbo engine if I was to do it all again.
So much easier to make power reliably with a modern forced induction engine.

Any chance you could list out some of those pit falls Bart?
My goal is to build a screaming stroked A series.

The factory pistons aren't up the the task. The ring lands tend to get a bit loose.
By the time you build a strong reliable A series, you could have easily bought a CA or SR. And a mildly worked turbo engine would easily exceed the power output of a pretty wild A series.

Kidds VG30 eating 510 with the CA in is very impressive, I can only imagine what a worked CA would go like in a 1200, but work wise surely an A series build is way easier. Oh and the Twin sidies or ITB scream, Mmmmm

Depends on what you really want most I guess.
Damon's ute is a classic example of a well built A15 that is no end of awesome. But still a street car with it.

I haven't built an A15 or a stroked A Series but I have built and thrashed a Std Crank, rods, front dissy, cast piston 1300cc A12, for 10 years this engine won club champs, hill climbs, competed in Rallies and Endurance Races and never complained, apart from when the fly wheel bolts shore off, the ensuing free rev was a thousand or two too many, but 4 valves and 6 Flywheel bolts later and it was all good. I recommend ARP flywheel bolts, and even dowling the flywheel.
They are a sweet wee engine that loves to Rev. Reliably. Rewardingly.
Do it :burnout:
