Nice work man - sorry i havent had a look for those heater bits for you yet.
How good are the H190 axles to pull - no need to even remove the wheels for quick diff changes lol

Tried to reassemble the rear axle today with the reversed leaf springs. Got it all together but I had the brakes cylinder at the top of the drum rather than on the bottom.

Did some research/phone calls and more reading of the manual. Looks like I needed to swap sides a rotate backing plate to get bleeder to the bottom. When I did this the leaf spring is in the way of the handbrake cable

So after all that, I had to put it back to how I originally assembled it. My thoughts are, due to the axle being shortened and the reversed eye leaf springs, the assembly like the manual explains just wasnât going to work. So flipped the axles/ backing plates and all assembled!

But heck the new height looks good

Also put the towball on for the bike rack

In other news, the bearing wasnât the issue, it was a bent axle so next mission is to source another and shorten it then reassemble.
I will make nationals

Sorted a 2nd hand axle, just need to collect it
Onto the next area, Iâve had an exhaust leak from the headers so pulled the exhaust gasket off and it was poked.

Had a replacement gasket for where the header pipes go from 2into1 so had that out too and it was also fecked.
Glad Iâve started the journey to replace it as it looks like it had started to leak into the intake ports. Unsure what damage that would be doing but either way it couldnât have been good.

Gaskets all sorted. fuel mix sorted too as it was idling a bit shit. Still seems to rev high when stationary but in gear đŤ¤
Got a spare axle (cheers Karl), machined up to suit by Gear Cutters Engineerong in Christchurch. Took a while to get back but theyâve done a good job. Simon Wood ended up collecting and delivered to my door
went to slap it back together on Fatherâs Day but realised I didnât have my sleeve to ram on the locking collar.
In other sad news, Iâm not going to make nats. No money in bank account. It was sad just constantly walking into shed and looking at a Datsun on axle stands. Shit this thing is low!! Too low for WhÄnau

Ok, so today was a good and bad day. Good due to getting the wagon to (what I thought) road worthy standard for a little cruise to the shop and back. I put the original leafs back in with some 1â blocks (needs 2â).
Turns out I threw an axle with the locking collar not holding. Was simply turning left at a roundabout.
Luckily Harry and Karl were in town looking at another Datsun and happen to save me from the Kmart car park.
Pulled it all apart to assess and canât find an issue.
Any ideas???
- Poor installation and collar wasnât on fully?
- grease under collar during installation?
- excess shims pulled collar off?
- wrong collar
Iâm stuck, it literally looks like I could re-use the same collar (donât worry I wonât).

Well itâs been a journey with this thing. Finally got the axle all sorted. Aparently by heating the locking collar it causes the hardened steel to weaken and likely cause of failure. 11T of pressure and itâs back up and running.
Have put the original leafs back in with 1â blocks. The reversed leaves were too low for whanau. So im currently getting some 2â blocks made.

Took for a WOF pre labour weekend and failed on cut bump stops and no rear refletors. Sorted some new bumpies and some lame as trailer reflectors. WOF passed, and out for some local cruising with kids.

Was out doing a playground run with the kiddies and touched a concrete curb so that hurt my pride a little. Guess itâs some shit driving by me.
