I'm a big fan of 410/411's in all shapes and it looks like you scored a minta, good stuff.

Thanks for the info - I actually have a whole spare set of panels, glass and most of the interior. I figured a while ago that if I was going to do up a car that was difficult to get parts for, then I should get a whole set of spares so I wrecked a whole car.SeEn-ThE_lIgHt wrote:Oh, i actually know of one in Central otago here, May be good for parts..

Just realised that in the brakes section I put that I was using 240z brakes. In fact it is 280zx brakes and will try to get as close to the conversion described for the 510's in this article http://dimequarterly.tierranet.com/arti ... rakes.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Jeremy's 1965 Datsun Bluebird 410
Alright got a little bit done so thought I'd post an update:
Stripped back engine ancillaries and unbolted everything but the engine mounts so it is ready to come out. Will take out the engine first leaving the gearbox to help line up the new engine and also to avoid damaging anything pulling box out the top as I cannot remove the front cross bar without use of a grinder.
Also got stuck into the rear quarter which had a fair amount of bog in it. Looks like someone has grinded back a lot of rust leaving the panels very thin, so they will be cut out and new patches welded in. I was hoping to use just paint stripper and a plastic scraper to ensure I didn't thin the metal out any more but it proved to labourious so I have gone with paint stripper and a 3M compound wheel on a drill.
Now I am just working on planning the engine and gearbox mounts (as you may have seen from some of my questions). If anyone knows any good build threads showing step by step how people have setup and lined up their engines/drivelines please send me a link (I have searched). I am keen to learn any tricks of the trade or easy ways people have found to do this.
The engine should be out this weekend.

Re: Jeremy's 1965 Datsun Bluebird 410
Sitting in an airport lounge ready to head off to San Fran for work for a week so figured it would be an ideal time for a quick update.
Couple of weekends ago I pulled the E1 engine out and started taking the guards off (what was very difficult due to the amount of rusted bolts and screws that held everything together).
Here are the pics and some of the A15 hung in the hole, and how the mounts line up - or not.
Headlights coming off (drilling out screws) Engine coming out It's out - check out the sump, designed to fit between the cross member and the steering rack. A15 in hole just to see where it fits Passenger side mount Drivers side mount General view of engine/mounts and the engine bay Car at the end of the day.

Re: Jeremy's 1965 Datsun Bluebird 410
Been in the States so haven't had much time on this lately but got into the garage for a few hours today (shared between the car and my new bike as seen in Offtopic). Got the other front guard off and managed to extract a number of broken/rounded bolts and screws. A lot of time for a little progress; thank goodness for Easy outs.
Hopefully get the old gearbox out tomorrow and start to line up the new one.
My wife is almost due with our second child so it is a mission to even get the odd hour right now....
