The other advantage of using old looms, is that you can keep and reuse the connectors. Just solder different wires on near the connector if you want to change colours. Many of the plastic connectors you buy at Repco/Supercheap/Dick Smith are quite poor quality, very hard to actually disconnect, and very bulky in comparison to original auto connectors.
i rung up land transport nz and LVV certification and they both said i would not need to recert on re-vin. im not sure what the story is there then!

yeah i have plenty of that sort of stuff mate! cheers for the advice! wiring is going well too. have gotten a reasonable amount done for only maybe 9or 10 hours work! its good!

Well done, good effort, all the best with what could be a really frustrating job I guess.

cheers classicdat! it started off very frustrating.. the car must never have been charging because the charged wires werent going straight onto the starter terminal, this must have been the cause for the smoking wire as too many amps were coming out for the wire. and an earth from the alt was also connected to the same wire. so it was shorting a lot of power. which must have been why that battery wouldnt last overnight..

so far i have the car able to crank over, power to the ignition and fuse box, oil pressure and air temp sensors connected up, all coil wires tidied up and i've taken away a stupid ugly z18et connector box, power to coil, negative from coil. and today i will try and get fuel gauge connected up and reverse lights. then i will try and get the lights working! fun times!

today me and my mate corey got a few things going; tail lights now go, so do brake lights. and so do headlights! main things are almost done, just pretty much indicators and then wrapping and making all the wiring much tidier!

have spent planty of time on the wiring lately. all the of the lights work, apart from the bulbs to light up the tacho face. but i'll sort that. fuel gauge works, so does everything else dash wise, head lights, tail lights, reverse lights, brake lights and park lights all work. its just pretty much wire up indicators which i started on today and then windscreen wipers! good times!
