this is true of most of us, in hindsight its probably better to DRIVE A CAR with dirty parts that can be made better, than to look at an unfinished car in the garage that has some mint parts and some to be done lol,
I hear ya Wal. Is the track I'm taking. Glad to be back on the road and enjoying my 1200 while the sunshine and great weather is about, before locking her up for the next round
I'm pretty pedantic when it comes to stuff, so I know that this is the best way without killing myself with the stresses of perfection

I hear you both! I went the pedantic route and its been killing me seeing as I have forked out ~$40k on something that hasnt lived up to the standard I wanted for that sort of money, lots left to do and now only coming to the realisation its time to put the fucker back together not so perfect and just drive it. Then attack little bits at a time over the next couple years while I am enjoying it. Not wanting to put dirty looking brake lines in my car just cost me $640 smh.

Luke,
Keep doing what you are doing mate, sensible expenditure and use of time and resources.
You will have a great wee car, that you will get plenty of looks in and love driving, without the frustrations of a drawn at full build (such as many of the builds on here.... including my coupe)
Also as a young fella you need to keep enough $ to get OTP regularly, and do what ever else you want to do, without having your car being a constant financial suck out. Like Ginge I have spent a fortune on a car that is still only maybe 75% done (at least Ginges is painted!) I have spent about 25K to date, and probably another 10K to go
My first Project (Wilbur) was not a ground up rebuilt, but still was an awesome wee car that looked mint and went well, as I spent money in the right areas, and initial repair from deregistered written off Nana car to repair/paint, new carpet rubbers etc was only about 8 weeks. thankfully it was a clean base to start with. However, it still had stock suspension and brakes etc, and although fun, was not quite as developed as I wanted. But I still miss it....... However I consciously sold the sedan to fund the coupe project (damn I wished I could afford to have both of them in the garage.....) I used what I learnt from my sedan to improve the level of detail / finish I am achieving on the coupe. I hope to have one of the most awesome/mint 'A' series powered 1200 coupes on the road in Australasia (even if it is just my opinion!..) There is a lot of passion / blood / sweat & tears going in to it - as there is in a number of other projects on this website.
Wilbur, just before I sold him last year:

I distracted wal from doing this car for an hour or so to fixe a little bit of my car. lol.
Afterwards I stuck around for a while while he fixed some more of it. I can watch him repair cars all day and not get tired of it.
This should be a really tight car once it's finished!

and guys, so far to date including initial cost of the car which was $3200 (with well hidden rust) i have only ticked up probably another $3500ish, incl new rims,
so around 6.7k for all rust done, and all thats left to do is panel and paint (still to decide on btw, wanting a dark blue or green but open to suggestions)
most of panel/filling/priming etc grandad does, and then wal to top coat it all, then it all back goes together! rubber kit and new floor mat also to purchase.
still not too bad and very under those horrendous yearly wages amounts you have spent

thats not bad spending there, Im at about 10kish But im alot further from finishing. Allow another $600 or so to get that sucker low. Give me a yell when your ready and i'll organise the parts for your suspension. Due in part to the amount i have spent at autolign and that Tim the manager is an all round top bloke, I can sort a sharp price for your suspension bits. (normally around the 40% off mark) Also just ordered a heap of bits for Brendans coupe so i already know the parts you require too haha
I vote that factory Dark green that Flauskis old coupe was (Grant76 owns it now i'm pretty sure) thats a pretty mean color, was going to paint mine that color when I had visions of finishing mine.

took to grandparents the same night so couldnt! tell you what moment it gets home thats whats going on! pics and maybe short video for when that happens..... emma not included, it is a coupe, there is only so much space for me and my cars ego.
Did 5 hours today on engine bay, will be finished and ready for primer etc tomorrow sometime. (my grandad, the most fantastic man alive......(exception....wal).....) has told me, i pay for materials, and help him with building a deck, he does panelwork + primer and undercoating for nothing!!!!!!
and said within a month, inbetween work etc, top coating engine bay and running gear in is very possible.
my kind of update right there!!!!! finished before my 21st!
