Some may already know but I work in IT. Pretty general job title but I do a little bit of everything nonetheless. In my spare time I run a small word of mouth after hours tech support business Sing out if you have any IT queries!

Why does my ADSL 2 cut out when ever the phone rings? but can be reconnected while talking on the phone, phone filters on all phone lines, D-link modem.

I am a Project Manager, with a draughting back ground.

Currently working for a commercial furniture company, fitting out (mainly) government buildings with tables, workstations, seating, partitioning systems and custom joinery and the likes. I run projects from signed contract stage and oversee through stock procurement, manufacturing, sub contracting , dispatch and installation. More of a an operations based role, than out and out project management. also do a bit of modelling, and 2D draughing and layout work.

Over the years I have previously worked in manufacturing, production, and consultancy based engineering companies.

Started out in the Civil engineering side at the local council doing a draughting cadet-ship (did an NZCE by correspondance - yuck) then changed in to a mechanical based engineering environment and after a few years draughting transitioned into Project management, I had a good time travelling to interesting places like Australia, U.K., Bulgaria, and spent a lot of time in Northern Germany commissioning equipment etc, I did well enough to climb the ranks quickly, and ran my first $1m project when I was 22 years old, and took the lead on a $6m+ project at 25 y/o. Kind of did all that was to be done there, and travelling was less appealing once I started a family (I still remember going to Germany for 6 weeks, when my daughter was 3 months old....) and our projects were starting to drift out of the western countries and into the east, and I didn't fancy going to inner mongolia, india or china, so I decided to get out. I was head hunted to be the Engineering manager of a large textile producing company. following that, I did 4 years in Engineering consultancy, doing draughting, Project management, and 3D structural steel detailing for construction projects, before taking on my current role.

Gee that all sounds boring, what a terrible post, sounds like I just wrote my CV......

Oh well, I guess thats the idea of the topic, to find a bit about what people do outside of being a datsun-a-holic....

Haha Kitch I'm a 4th year chemical and processing engineer at Canty, was an interesting read! Good to actually meet (sort of) people who have done big project management

Im currently doing civil and found mechanical engineering is where Im best with our current projects. Still enjoy what Im doing and hoping to venture over seas at a later date hope fully with my son as the ex wants to travel as well (we are not together but shes a smart Ho who can pretty much work where ever she wants) and its the 2000s so we keep Charlies best interest in mind.
Pretty sure I have done my life story some where already in this thread but Im a jack of all trades and fit car alarms on the side, Currently have 8 cars waiting for me and the best part is there is 5 dattos. 120y, 180b wagon, two 180b coupes and the gold bluebird GT that was on trademe many years ago.
