What would you like to do to the front end Garth? The 4age can't be too much heavier than the a series. The beauty of keeping the original front struts is that you keep your 1200 profiled steering arms. Whilst there are untold 1200's and 120y's getting around with B310 steering arms to enable various strut upgrades, I don't think they have the same profile as the 1200's. This means that the ackerman isn't spot on. But like I say, there are HEAPS of cars running them.
Personally what I'm running is,
1200 disc brake struts with s13 brakes,
B310 lower arms and castor rods,
1200 ute (Or very early b310 sunny?) steering arms,
Longer HB310 bottom ball joints, (Free negative camber ftw!)
and not fitted yet, a B210 sway bar.
Plus I'm running avenger rear coil springs in the front.
It's a pretty good set up.

4ages are heavy little suckers. I believe despite there size they are about the same weight as a ca18de.
I'd just do the s13 brakes like bart said
As far as suspension goes thats a tough one. IT depends on how low you want to go. If you want to go about 2 inches lower then you'll be fine with standard inserts and strut tubes and some lowered springs. If you want to go more than that you really need to look at shorter inserts or putting an insert in the stamndard oil filled set up to keep the spring captive. Normally cut/compressed lowered springs. If you want to go 4" plus you need to shorten the strut housing and get a smaller insert to mach. Springs then become an issue as 4" plus is really coilovers only.

I don't know how low you can go, but beyond a certin point you might need bumpsteer spacers. Although on a street car too low is an unwise move.

mines about 4-5 inches lower. I'd say 3" and more you definitely need them

4age with T50 box is 154kg dry weight and the red top which we have pops out a nice 140hp..not sure what the weight of the ca18 is. im most likely going to just go for the s13 brakes in this situation. i will end up going lower of course but probably only a few inches. anyone know the weight of an a12 and box?

Not sure, but I can lift them, (one at a time) so they can't be that heavy!!!
I'd say a four speed would be about 25 -30 Kg max
According to a thread here the Engine is 87Kg, (I'm stronger than I thought, although to be honest I don't get it far off the ground).
So that's about 110 - 115Kg
Abit lighter.
