Well I can now confirm that DR30s do actually have stub axles with the bigger spline and they take the bigger bearings, which means I didn't really need to buy new bearings and I didn't need to find new companion flanges! I've got one side of the rear done, I decided just to carry on with redrilling the rear rotors, I've done one which was a bit of a pain but not too bad. I've got the new stub axle fitted to the other side so I just need to drill the rotor and then jam it all back together.

Struck a slight problem with the front, when I bought the calipers Mike had two sets and I've ended up with 2 left hand calipers, he has kindly offered to send me the other two but he's in France at the moment, in the mean time I've borrowed one of the GTS-t calipers and rotors that Zac ended up with that were originally on the Z! The only difference is the rotors are 2mm thinner on the GTS-t so I don't think it's going to upset it at all and it should only be for a week. I'll post up some pictures of the finished product a bit later on.

Made up a 1.5mm restrictor for the turbo oil feed tonight just to try and see if it helps with the smoking, it seems to be getting more frequent and longer when it is smoking, somebody beeped at me on the way home 'cause I smoked them out haha.

The FJ oil returns look quite silly and have a few right angle bends, but it works okay on the factory turbo so it's probably not the problem. Something like this:

Haven't seen a single puff of smoke since fitting the restrictor and the turbo still seems to be working so maybe I've fixed it?

Gearbox seems to be getting noisier though, have found a full kit on Trademe for $165 but it doesn't come with the shaft nuts but I found another place that has them for $5 each so might have to get on to that in a couple of weeks.

So after a couple of weeks of trouble free motoring it looks like I've killed the turbo on this thing, was fine yesterday but pretty much as soon as I got out of the driveway this morning it was whining. Took the inlet piping off after work and the compressor housing is full of oil, there's oil dripping out of the wastegate flapper housing and it has 2 or 3mm of end play.

Not sure what happened, maybe my restrictor hole was too small combined with thick, cold oil this morning? Will have a browse on Trademe and see if there is anything decent on there, if not I might just get it rebuilt again.

Stink bro, I think gingofthesouth had a spare one around that he might part with if you hit him up.

So it looks like the oil restrictor was a band aid for another problem! After pulling the turbo apart today it looks like one of the roll pins holding the thrust bearing is MIA, possibly in the sump (the only place it can go I think) which explains the excessive oil in the compressor housing. So the turbo looks okay and everything should be fine apart from the bearings and exhaust wheel/shaft which is now rooted due to lack of oil! I've got spare shafts so I'll send one of those over with the rest of the bits and maybe see if he has a 360 degree thrust as well.

Yeah, he's done two for me in the past and he's not a dick like some of the other ones I've talked to.
