Cheers guys, always good to see some encouraging comments
Just for that here's a sneak peak at my fairly mint new grill complete with "Datsun" badge

Also got my rust-free front bumper on as well

Got my cert yesterday
It took all of 5 minutes for him to check it over and now it's all good.
So last night after work I started clearing out the engine bay. I'm hoping to get it all ready so it can get painted this weekend. Paint should hopefully arrive today.
Managed to get a bit of stuff done:
- removed radiator
- undid all the engine wiring from the body side (had to cut a few wires as they were hard-wired so with put some plugs in when I put everything back together)
- removed the coils
- removed battery
- unbolted clutch slave
- removed gearbox crossmember
- undid exhaust at a flange by gearbox
- undid heater hoses
- probably a few other things
So hopefully I can borrow an engine crane for tonight and get the engine and gearbox outta there

Yup. Apparently certs are a piece of piss if you aren't a dodgy mofo
We are just planning of coming down in the 610. The wagon is our backup transportation if I don't get mine finished in time (unlikely). It's going to be a pretty expensive trip (1000+ km each way) with us taking just one car, let alone two....should be well worth it though

I can definately vouch it will be worth it. Next year I will meet ya in Welly with my Skyline.
Lookin schmick by the way, that photo of the grille could pass as a catalogue shot.

Cheers Flauski, I had best see you there in a years time
Engine is out as of last night so here are some pics:

And some pics of my wiring so I remember how it goes back together
Wiring at the battery, as well as fuel pump relay (the one with the green fuse)

Now I've just got to remove the brake master cylinder and booster, possibly the clutch master cylinder, wrap up all the remaining wiring and prep the engine bay.

Well I got everything out of the engine bay and cleaned and sanded it by the end of Friday.
On Saturday my Uncle came round and sprayed the engine bay.
So at this stage I've got the engine and gearbox back in, along with pretty much everything else in the engine bay. There are still a few things left to do before I can start it up and go and get my cert plate attached:
- drill holes and install universal washer bottle pump.
- reconnect three wires that I had to cut to remove the engine loom.
- put washer bottle, radiator overflow bottle, and battery back in.
- fill up gearbox with oil.
- fill up new brake master cylinder and bleed brakes.
- bleed clutch system.
- put bonnet back on.
- put grill back in.
I'm hoping to have it legal by the end of the week

Did a bit more last night. Managed to put my new washer bottle pump in (which works extremely well....shooting water over the car
) as well as the washer bottle and radiator overflow bottle.
Also filled up the gearbox with oil and bled all the brakes and the clutch system and put the battery back in.
Connected a few wires and she started up
so glad to have her running again. Looking promising to get it all legal beagle by the end of the week
