yeah, best to use as much gear from your ute as possible, as you know it all worked fine before the motor swap.

Is your alternator internally regulated or externally regulated? You can tell by looking at the small spade terminals (they'll be labelled N & F if it's external, and probably S & L if it's internal).
Possibly the output which should send 12V to extinguish your charge light is sending 12V to your coil instead.

yeah thanks for that Bart, was thinking the same thing, will swap them over later in week and see how it goes. Will keep you posted on progress.

problem sorted, Bart is the winner of the day with the alternator being the problem. Changed them over and problem gone
the one off old motor is externally (N and F) regulated and the one off new motor was internal (S and L)
