You can get a factory service manual for a 280ZX here:

http://www.xenons130.com/reference.html

The torque specs will be the same, it depends on which head bolts you've got though, some are just plain on the top and then some have an extra ring which are the "turbo" head bolts, there should be a picture of them in the FSM.

So thought id start putting this beast back together today..... until i decided it would be a good idea to check the water pump out while everything was so open

i found this ....Yes that is fins missing!!!

which in time turned to this

Needless to say it is alot better that I found it now rather than when the cars over heating again ....my question is how do I get the pieces that are missing out of the block?

They've probably rusted away into nothing by now, just make sure you give the block and radiator a good flush/back flush.

All the 6's except the LD28 should have the same pump, just make sure the overall height is the same.

What he said.

Pretty sure ones iv done were the same aye. That corossion usually happens when the engine has been sitting dry for a long time. Had a few come into work like that that were from conversions.

only thing you might want to check on the new pump is the diameter of the pulley spigot. I had a pump once that had the wrong size (too big) and it wouldn't fit. Better to check that at the begining, rather than after you've put it all back together.
They don't call me the man with the rubber arm for nothing you know.............
