I use 12.9 tensile capscrews on my engine. The bolts/capscrews hold the flywheel on. The dowels only hold the flywheel in the one spot.
This problem is well documented for the A series motors.

Hands up all those who have had an A series flywheel come off. I'm one. General road use not a biggy but start puting some power out and using the said power, this is what you end up with often.

I Also have had this loose flywheel problem in My A15 few years back not much fun at all

yip me too, flywheel loosened off, sounded like a bottom end rattle

id never heard of it before but ol well shit happens il get onto it if i find a new crank or motor for the mean time im gonna start panelbeating my ute and get the interior done also gotta chuck my motor and 5 speed in for a test fit so i can make my crossmember
