so have been thinking about this all day, so bear with me if im barking up the wrong tree here

the centre is fixed, and the outer bearing carrier (hub) is fixed but moves up and down, if the axle that joins the wheel flange and the diff together is a set length then where is the give (if any) when the wheel moves up and down with suspension travel?
ie could you not forgoe the circlips that hold the splined axle shaft in the centre, as at worst on full suspension travel the centre hub may move in or out much like a driveshaft on a conventional gearbox, as long as it cant move to far in and munch the oil seal, where is the harm??? it cant fall out and may only move sideways a couple of mm at most?

am I on the wrong track :?:

In an OEM application one side of the CV shaft is fixed and one side is floating, if you have 2 sides floating with no way of holding it in place the shaft could disengage drive to one wheel.

it would probably be fine, but i wouldn't like to try bashing a B road and then suddenly have all the power going into only one wheel.

i have universal shafts with a slip joint and the natural thing for the slip joint to do is to close up so it will definitely pull the stub out if it is not locked in.

A plan has been devised and all is in order to carry it out now. Just need to get it done.
