Yep that's basically what I did only I didn't beat the housing I modified the bolt, and I filled the old holes with weld, four of the holes get quite close as you can see in pics.
Don't like the spacer idea either, rather change the driveshaft.

I did that exact conversion to mine... altho next time i may just put the whole toyota housing in as axle bearings are heavier...

I put the toyota UJ on the driveshaft so no spacer.

Its a good option if your not a looking to become a burnout king and dont need the extra strength of a hilux diff.
I have avoided using a hilux diff since going in a car before and after one was fitted, seamed to drain the life out of it quite considerably.
Especially n/a rotaries which don't make a lot of torque anyway.

Thanks, I go through stages of wanting too and not. If I get busy on other peoples stuff and go for weeks looking at it not getting anything done I just want it gone but when I get into it again I love it.
Ended up costing roughly $1600 give or take, that's a good donor h165 complete diff, new ae86 discs, primera p10 calipers, new pads, made brackets myself, and an ae86 lsd.
