i agree with wrx box. strength wise, reckon it would be sweet if you got hold of an sti 6 speed. they pretty strong from what i understand. also think if that didnt last, you could get dog gear sets from australia, but kinda expensivenick_m wrote:Yeah WRX box might work but I think they'd still get nervous but atleast you'd have a better chance of finding an LSD. Porsche box would work but fuck me they'd be expensive.
Maybe an audi box out of an A6 with the v6's or a diesel one. But you'd never get an LSD one.
WRX is probably the pick for cost vs availability vs stength vs LSD
Right so who's going to be the first to do it

They are everywhere, I'd just by a couple of 5 speeds and cross my fingers they last. When it goes bang just replace. Atleast its in the tray so will be easy to replace.
I reckon cut the whole tray out run new chassis rails from the cab back and narrow a skyline/silvia rear subframe with the subie box/engine combo in its place.
Hardest part would be the gear change.
Can I help

was thinking about this for ages last night, and you could possibly just use a normal rwd gearbox, but pretty much bolt the gearbox to the diff with a really short driveshaft. just an idea as i wouldnt know what lengths would be involved.
or you could just use the factory auto. would be easier to hook up gear linkages to

Yeah thought about that too but I don't think you'd have enough room in the tray the nissan v8 is like 760 long or something and gearbox would easy be a meter.
I agree auto would be EASY.
If you went auto just buy a FWD auto subie box, you'd probably pay a box of beer for one!

true, but a box of beers a week to replace the shitty fwd auto is a box less we could have consumed

true although i had a dvd where I think it was the rigoli boys in aus took a standard fwd impreza that they put a turbo wrx motor and nos into and were doing 11's with slicks and it was still living so it may just be alright
