I have the breathers plumbed up as in this photo.. and the breather coming out of the block below the inlet manifold comes up and goes into the inlet side rocker cover at the back of the motor.. and the other breather in the inlet side rocker cover has nothing on it.. but I cant see how all the oil could come out that breather because there was loads of oil behind the breather too..

I'm also on the lookout for another head too... some more great luck today haha! I was changing the spark plugs and one had a super tight spot when undoing.. anyway i was working it for ages with loads or penetrate.. and then it popped the nut from around the spark plug off.. so the spark plug is still in the head.. I could drill it out and helicoil it but it would be easier tp just buy another complete head..

I'm also changing the turbo exhaust housing from a .63 to .48 ( i think?) becasue boost kicks in at about 4500 so its just a massive lag monster to drive.. my old boss has the right size housing for me and he wants to just swap so thats easy!

does anyone think the oil problem could be the headgasket gone and under a lot of load on full boost the gasket gives into the oil gallery and pumps it out everywhere?

cheers

I'm also probably coming down to chch on wednesday so if anyone has a head lying around i would be keen to buy and pick up then!

cheers!

I've been trawling the net recently to find out where all the breather hoses go if using an oil catch can and found out a few other things as well. Judging by your pic, thats not how they are plumbed up from the factory. The breather on the inlet side cam cover should be plumbed into the PCV valve on the back of the inlet manifold and the exhaust side goes into the turbo intake(I think). But you could possibly put the filter on the exhaust side breather instead. I hope this helps, I'm not 100% on this but my motor does have the factory hose that goes from the inlet breather to the PCV valve.

yeah I found the same write up on the net with diagrams showing to put the breather hoses where you just said but my rocker covers are different and have the breathers in different places..

By the looks of that picture you have the rocker cover connected directly to the inlet manifold, is there a PCV valve in there?

Take it out and try and blow through it/suck through it. You should be able to blow through one way, if it's the same as the L series and RB ones it should be pretty easy to see which way it flows.

Had a good weekend on the datto.

friday night got most of the motor back together, and my mates made up some coilovers for me while i was doing that. I need to lower the fron loads more after I changed the tyres on my 14's to 195.40's because there was way too much gaurd gap, I'm happy with how she's looking now. had a few problems with massive oil leaks today and yesterday. It turned out half the problem was a poo oil filter seal, and the other half was the crankcase breather to the rocker cover hose had been disconnected accidentally by me.. and it was such a pig to get back on!

anyway she was going good after that. there's some drags coming up that I'll be keen to try too so it should be a laugh!

made a video my me and my mate practising our launches up his road.. the whole road was pretty much rubber by the end of a hour or two haha.

also put a sr20 throttle body in, 560cc injectors and fixed a massive boost leak! so now boost comes on at about 3500 or 4000 which i'm happy with! it goes much better now! might wind up the boost to about 20pound too. i'll see how its going once its tuned first.

here's a better launch vid
