I'm about to throw these manifolds in the Bin

somehow my spare manifold ( ie the one i have received back from welding and planing ) seems to have a different casting that would not allow me to get a socket in there to tighten up the exhaust nuts.

As i had my heads fitted with m10 studs and 14mm nuts this made things extremely difficult

so off the manifold came and a combination of grinding down a socket and "clearance" the manifold around the studs seemed to get me back into business.

Only to find that i put my glasses back on and the manifold i just got back from welding had a crack in a totally different place to the one that was just welded which was hidden underneath a layer of a the Iron Oxide.

I'm spewing at the moment Rakaia Cruise isn't looking good for now

can you not just weld it yourself? i know its not ideal to weld cast iron, but if you dont have access to a mig, either take it to uniweld, speak to grant and tell him i sent you, or i can have a crack at it. it wont be pretty, but it might do

Getting it welded is not the problem

the problem lies in that the casting between a 1984 manifold and a 1985 manifold is diffierent

which means that with 10mm exhaust studs ( factory was 8mm ) clearance for the nut is already tight enough i had to grind the shit out of a socket ( no access with an open end spanner )

the crack is right in the groove where the socket has to slide in to.

which means that any welding ( strong enough to do anything ) in that area will mean i have a manifold that i can't bolt to my cylinder head.

I guess i could slap it on the side and run it until my WOF runs out ( 1st may ) and then finish these

The shorty headers are the easy bit, getting from each header to the turbo & where to put the turbo and wastegate is the difficult bit which is exatly why i havn't got that far.

Don't join them up, just put a turbo on each side :P
