That sucks real bad - if it had a head unit in it and they stole it it is possible the left the direct power earthing on the steel - thus causing a fire as i know with most datsuns the power wire is "aftermarket" and usually doesnt have a fuse.
When my stereo gear got stolen from the y the big main fuse for the sub was blown so had happpened in my car.

Alessandra reckons that the headunit wasn't even stolen (she had the faceplate with her anyway) so yeah I guess it was just blatant vandalism.
Thanks for all the support team, hopefully the insurance company will pay out decently for the car.

Such a shame to see the car like this. I hope this doesn't happen to any other datsuns out there!

The worst part is the smell of a burnt out car. It's horrible.

Hope they catch the bastards. Thats just pure bullshit vandalism there. Complete disrespect for others property. Hope you get some good coin, enough to get another in good condition anyway.

Yeah we're all gutted about the car, it was a sweet whip. It looks like Alessandra will be getting some money for it, but not enough to buy another one in good condition. This experience has really made me question our insurance company (AMI) as they were incredibly reluctant to pay out.
It also appears that almost any licensed motor vehicle dealer with tell you that if your car is Japanese and 1980s or older it is worth $1000 or less. It has been agony trying to explain that old cars are desirable, and as such the market value of these cars is higher than they seem to think.
