I think you are thinking of Kane, aka Crustywhip who has moved to Christchurch.Roddsteel wrote:Hi all, just wondering if anyone can recommend someone who can help with tuning and other issues in the Wellington area? I have done some stuff myself, but my meagre knowledge can only go so far and my car is not running great...or if anyone can recommend a good mechanic for these things that would be great. Was getting some help from Kane in Porirua which was awesome, but I think he may have gone overseas for a bit - still want to get you that replacement part if you see this post man!

Where does pips diff sit in the que?85_Z31 wrote:Hi Guys
Totally by accident i have had a few people ask me to fit up & Check LSD centers from R200 short nose diffs into R200 Long nose Diffs
So I don't mind offering this to Datsun Club since most know what im up to anyway.
What I feel comfortable doing
*Fit your LSD guts into a long nose housing & set backlash back to factory specs , or near as what it was previously
*Thow some paste on the teeth and check the contact & adjust again if necessary
*Drill out and tap the housing to M10X1.5 so you can fit aftermarket large or Nissan finned alloy covers ( you supply new bolts & washers )
*Install new side bearings ( if you supply them to me )
*Make up new rear cover gaskets
*Giving the housing a wire wheel and shooting it up with some engine block paint ( add extra $20 )
*fitting new side seals
What I can't/wont do
*Work on a diff that's covered in oil and shit, got to be really clean before it see's my bench.
*Work on more than one diff at a time, ( small parts easy to confuse shims ect this is a no no having too much shit on the bench at once )
* I won't remove your pinion shaft or go near the pinion shims or bearings
* I can't machine down your axle stubs to fit
* I can't machine up bolt spacers for crown wheels ( Bart can arrange this so best to contact him )
Dan1200SSS now has his diff and hopefully will report back how it runs.
Illusive is next on the list with his diff about to go up on the bench.
Spot 3 - Brendan (mint 16 ) gets first call on spot 3
Spot 4 - Leppa ( Dylan ) gets first call on spot 4
*I would estimate about 2 weeks for diff to get done, but it could be longer - i get bust and I'm not a pro diff shop
Any Diff that comes off my bench has no warranty / or gaurente of any kind whats so ever. I do my best building diffs on my bench to the Nissan factory specs. I do have most of measuring gear to do a reasonable Job, but in most cases i do not get to listen if the diff is noisy when its in car so i have no way of knowing if it was noisy before it got to me.
I do not carry any parts so you will pretty much have to find everything you need before you ask me about it![]()
Remember I am not a diff shop and I am not doing a pro job I am a dude in a garage doing his best with 2nd hand and worn diffs that come from old cars.
This is what a diff could look like when complete
