Will it cost you that much? It probably will, and a whole lot more if you want everything done to the same standard - completely original, every nut and bolt replated, NOS parts everywhere etc.

I know what mine owes me so far, and it's a LOT less than what these other guys are spending - however, I'm not as far through mine and I'm not terribly concerned with keeping everything original - if I was wanting everything standard 510 SSS then it would be vastly more.

I feel much better about what my car owes me now reading this thread!

Another factor not mentioned, but that carries a tremendous weight when buying a car like lukeys is,
The value of getting to enjoy a car that sweet right now. Not weighting to save up, or for painfully slow beaters/painters etc etc.
Plus a car that fantastic, would almost always be sold for a fraction of the actual build cost. An no nasty suprises down the track. I've seen a few cars that looked nice when sold, later turn out to require extensive rust work.
They don't call me the man with the rubber arm for nothing you know.............

So did I.... Or so I thought. It actually needed all the old bodywork redone properly, at a huge cost. If i had to do it again I would have preferred to start with one that was unmolested, even if it needed extensive repairs. If you buy it then make sure you get pics of the work as it was being done.

:agree:

What Bart said. Time is a valuable thing too, and I'm sure we've all spent large amounts of it doing jobs we'd rather pay someone else to do.

Yes.
Last car I almost bought, (Valiant charger for $22K) I took a fridge magnet, and my bore-o-scope. (Inspection camera)
Stuck the thin magnet on in the places I know they go rusty, and I stuck my camera probe into the places where I couldn't see otherwise.
If a thin fridge magnet wont stick, or falls off easy, you know there's a fair whack of bog beneath.
