There is another thread for the southern cruisers, i'll see if I can fine it and post in it, would be good if we can all travel together. Chris From Rangiora witht eh sweet old 1600 is coming too,
I'll look into what we need to do for booking on the ferry to get the group discount and will also phone a friend to see where he stayed when he was there a couple of weeks ago. Quietly hoping he has a contact for a house that will sleep a few which may be a cheaper way to go if a few are keen to do this.
Don't leave it too long for accommodation guys, Ohakune is a busy little place, probably like Methven. Turoa skifield is up the mountain from town and Whakapapa skifield is an hour away. It is the biggest town in the area and attracts overseas visitors. Long weekend and middle of ski season means places to stay could disappear quickly. Waiouru is ok for a piss and a pie but probably not much fun to stay in ! Look forward to seeing you all though. Will try to tag along with you Southern folk from Wellington if it works out.
so just to be clear....
drive up friday - sort accomodation for wherever we decide to stop
okahune saturday - drive up to taupo late arvo and stay there?
taupo sunday - again stay in taupo
drive home - all day monday
if this is the plan someone let me know so i can look at family/friends options etc for accomodation
The plan so far is to catch the 8am Sailing on Friday Morning, this allows a relaxed Drive Thursday Arvo, or an all nighter, if preferred, getting us to Ohakune for a restful Friday Night and the beginning of a great weekend.
New Matters:
Discussed travel to Nats from South and decided on 8am Friday Sailing, with a Cruise leaving Christchurch Thursday Arvo. Return crossing Monday 1:30pm.
Hayden to check how to make bookings to get "Group' discount on BlueBridge.
