hi All!
I'm new on here and have just bought this 72 1600.
Hope to be upgrading a few bits on it like brakes and suspension so any hints would be good.
Don't know the history of the car so if you know anything please pass it on. Any info appreciated!

It has a CA18DET in it and has been in last owners possession for about 7years.
Looks to have been built well but i haven't had a physical look - bought sight unseen so crossed fingers!

It eventually be a stable mate with my 73 240Z which is mid rotiserrie restoration.
That project is awaiting engine (RB25DET) and running gear mockup before paint.

chat with you all soon!

Welcome aboard, looks cool. Although not sure about the external intercooler. Looks like a couple of build threads needed. What is the story with the 240? Don't get distracted.

Not me but surely someone will know something.
Whats the current sus/brake setup like? Get it drive it. Get a feel for where it is lacking.
Looks pretty sweet from the photo.
How soon to procession date?

It was indeed! The seller was a bit shocked that I would do it sight unseen but sometimes ya gotta to get these things when the pop up!

Possession should be late next week.

At this stage all I know is it has compressed springs in the front and some air shocks in back.
Stock brakes and rides a bit hard and needs investigation.

I believe it also needs:
Engine/gbox sandwich plates.
A front bumper (once the IC disappears!)
A front grille - see above
Some minor sill rust repaired.
Would like to put some badges back on - think new ones out of the USA are pretty good price,
Also like put a bushing kit in it.

Thinking r31 struts? Front. And rear not sure. I have an r31 disc set for the 240 so may go that way

Good to hear from you all!!

hi guys,
As some of you already know I've bought a 620 ute a couple of weeks ago. I should start telling you the history behind this buy & introduce my self.

In 2008 when I immigrated to NZ from Paraguay (a country in South America, right in the middle a land lock country between Brasil & Argentina) after I met my wife back in Py in 2004.

I was on trademe one day in 2008 looking for a Datsun (my fathers first truck was a 2wd, 1982, Datsun 720 double cab brand new Py New) I found an add for a Datsun 620 LHD no wof & no rego with "some rust" asking price was $2000.

I wrote an email to the guy offering him $1000 (that was all the money i had at the time for a vehicle) and answer was short and clear. "If i wanted $1000 for the truck I would have put my price $1000." "I want $2000 for it" thanks.

At the time couldn't afford it and had others things to pay for (English classes mainly).

So I thought it might be for sale again one day.. I told my self just keep looking Luis.. Every time I would log on into trademe I would check if she was there.. but for years no luck...

Anyway we used to live in Dunedin (while my wife was studying at the Otago Uni) then we moved from Dunedin to Alex and then Oamaru and then back to Dunedin and then Wellington & now been in Christchurch for 2 years.

I was looking for a 1200 ute as not luck with my 620 LHD. someone recommended me the "nzdatsun web site."
since then I have posted a few questions here and people been helpful so that was good!!!

I even asked about this 620 LHD! no one knew anything about it.

Through a friend of mine I got Luke's number to see if he was keen to sell his 1200 ute. He told me I was 5 months too late!

One night I was just going through the car for sale thread and when I was on the page 19 I think it was i saw an add "Datsun ute 1979 for sale" clicked on that and.. there she was.. the same one that I've been looking for years.!! couldn't sleep that night thinking about it. It was an add from April 2012, I thought he has probably already sold it anyway called him next morning and he told me "yep truck is parked in my house" Went to have a look, drove it and the rest is history. After two weeks of negotiations i bought it!

I will start a remember rides & project thread and post some pics there!

This truck means alot to me! remind me home & my father and my brothers (my family really) we done so many trips to Argentina and family farm on our Datsun 720 done over 300.000kms with it before selling it! so will take care of this one and hopefully enjoy it for many years to come!

Cheers

Luis

Hi My names Gerrit
I'm 26 years old and I enjoy short walks to the fridge, fishing, drum n bass and I have an obsession with classic japanese cars. I'm originally from a small hick town in Northland where I grew as a free range kid but now reside in sunny Browns Bay on the North Shore of Auckland. I currently work as the national sales manager for a company called CDK Stone. I specialise in diamond tools and machinery for the granite and stone industry and I've pretty much been into cars since as long as I can remember... My dad was a mechanic for giltrap holden in the 70's. (Reo motors back then) and my family has a long history of collecting & hoarding vintage cars... -

I currently own just one Datsun. a Black 1970 1600 running an FJ20ET that I have only purchased very recently.. It's my first Datsun and she's an absolute beaut!

Anyways, thanks for listening to my short life story...
I look forward to helping out any fellow enthusiasts in any way I can. I'm always happy to share spares, share a beer or on a sunny day even go out for a cruise.

Cheers

Gerrit.

Check out the past cruises forum and check our calendar for up coming cruises. There is always space for more events to be added, particularly in the North! Feel free to join in, and initiate things.
