Are you tuning it for yourself ?

Darren, yes I intend to tune it myself.

Will take me ages to research what to do, and get it done. but it makes it worthwhile doing it yourself I believe.

I have an Innovate wideband oxygen sensor, which should make it a lot easier I hope

Second hand battery purchased, and rewired my temporary earth.
Got it cranking over

It wasnt firing, and had bugger all fuel pressure (would only get to 20 PSI when I hard wired the fuel pump and let it run for a while) , so ended up pouring another 5-6 litred of gas in, and away it went @ 45 psi (to be fair I was concerned my new pick up point was sitting a bit high).

and No fuel leaks - yay!

Still not firing, played round with the Megatune software, and got to the output screen, and forced fuel pump on, and test cycled the injectors, I could hear them clicking away, so confident wiring is all OK.

When I cranked again it fired away a couple of times

But then it wouldn't fire again (assume the fuel from the test cycle had been sucked in), by this stage it was dark outside and battery was drained again.... so called it a night

My diagnosis, is that the VR sensor maybe not working properly, as the RPM signal is very fluctuating when it is cranking (jumps from zero, up near 270 rpm, and various numbers in between, but perhaps the software doesnt "smooth" the signal?), and think that either this or some other setting is preventing the injectors cycling during cranking?

Any thoughts guys?

your rpm signal should be pretty smooth, might bounce around say 50 or so rpm. for the vr sensor (depending on what software your using) there should be a raw signal monitor for it so you can make sure its getting a proper trigger all the time.

also sounds like your having the same issues with fuelling i had. i would double check your constants are calculated correctly then pretty much just keep upping the cranking fuel until you get it to fire. but first try starting it with the throttle open a bit just to check your not adding to much fuel. also these are very good points:
-If it doesn't fire despite what you do with the throttle it will probably need more fuel, only add a little at a time, 0.2mS increments.
-It is a good idea to set the Priming Pulse to ZERO whilst tuning, the Priming Pulse adds a little amount of fuel to prime and bleed the injectors on power up. This can soon flood the engine whilst you are tuning as you will turn the ignition on and off a lot!

i used 2 batterys to get mine going, i just hooked them up in parallel as you will do a fair bit of cranking to get the startup pulses right some times.

My plan from here is to do some inector flow calc's and calculate out the 'dead time' for my injectors.
To do this, I want to do it insitu, so will remove my manifold, so guess I might as well revert back to running up on carbs
afterwards, and get engine running off old dizzy / coil seup (before decommissioning) this will then enable me to confirm
consistancy of the VR signal, and can also get engine running for a bit to test temp sensor signal and maybe even O2 readings
(after I get sockets welded in to mount sensors).I then will look at hooking a timing light up to the new coil setup, and see if I can get that firing in sync with the old OEM dizzy / coil setup. then switch across, thus getting my spark on to the new ECU.
once i have confidence in this, I can then go back to tuning up the fuel settings.

Well I spent a couple of hours today, doing flowrate calculations on my injectors
and calculating the injector dead time (ended up being 0.85ms)



My injectors I brought are right where i wanted them (200cc @ 40 psi) which should be plenty for my wee 130HP (?) 1500 N/A.

I got my gorse out and brought a timing light, and set advance to 10° when cranking.

after changing some fuel settings following my testing, I cranked it up, and it fired immediately.

I also sorted the polarity issues on my TPS signal! to get that working properly.

I kept cranking and although it would fire it wouldnt run.

I changed a few settings, then must have cocked something up, cause I corrupted all my data.....

Lost all data/maps/ configuration & I/O settings....

I ended up flashing to new Firmware I grabbed online, and then turned on again, only to find now my megatune software is now incompatiable. and for some reason the tuner studio software is not working on the comms port.....

On the off chance I cranked the old girl up, and she fired again, so obviously it reinstated all my original settings with the flash...

without Megatune I could not adjust my TPS signal or fuel load - but cranked it up anyway and got a couple of teasing rev's before flattening the battery once again.......

Milestone day for me, although it could have gone better!!!!
already had a bottle of bubbly to acknowledge progress, and going to pour myself a whisky & dry now too

will recharge battery, and try and sort out the tuning software upgrade / comm's issues
