Started putting the motor back together yesterday, couldn't find my left over ARP thread lube to do the rod bolts with so have bought some more, just have to wait for it to turn up.

Got the crank in with new bearings and all the main bearing bolts tight, crank still rotates by hand so that's a good sign! Pulled apart the oil pump and gave it a clean and packed it with assembly lube, replaced the seal and installed it with a new gasket.

Need to finish off the work I'm doing to the head and get that cleaned and skimmed, then find some valve stem seals and decide on a head gasket and we should be good to go.

Flywheel finally showed up today, looks pretty good. Need to do a little measuring to make sure it's actually going to work as I was taking a bit of a guess when I bought it.

Got some ARP thread lube so can continue with the bottom end.

Bought a Chinese HKS copy 60mm wastegate, looks like it's going to work alright, the valve seat is part of the bottom flange which looks to be the same as what came on the exhaust manifold, I haven't tried it yet but I think it should all go together. Have been discussing with James about how to make it reliable but I'm having trouble tracking down a genuine HKS diaphragm that isn't going to cost more to get to NZ than the price of the wastegate. It's that horrible HKS purple colour too so I'll have to do something about that.

Is the wastegate body ali? I can probably strip the purple off and re do it in a less flashy colour.

Yeah, I think it is, looks like it's a machined casting, it's still rough at the bottom but the finish doesn't matter too much as you won't really be able to see it. Can you do it in black?

A well known workshop swears by these for value for money, 60mm wastegates are expensive on rotaries.

They recommend taking them apart and clearancing the housing correctly for the shaft so they dont expand and bind when hot, after that value for money you cant beat them.

Hmm if it's cast I can't really do much with it then. Cast ali doesn't anodise very well but I can take a look.

Sweet, I've got a couple of weeks off soon so I'll drop it in for you to look at. I've just pulled it apart, the top is a machined piece, the bottom definitely looks like a casting. What's the best way to get the anodising off?

This is exactly what i have been talking to DJZ about, I did these checks to mine and it has been reliable ever since it was installed.

Only way to strip anodising is dipping in a hot caustic bath til the anodising fizzes off, well that's the only way I know as that's how we do it at work.
