on another note........... went to fit extractors and noticed that i think they have been butchered
they are only held on by like 3 bolts, and it appears that they are missing some metal to go around the bolts...... elaborate for me please

Don't stress Luke, yes they have been cut, but that will have been to allow the Std A14/15 inlet manifold to fit, just make sure you have enough meat left to form a seal with the gasket. Each pipe has 2 studs, diagonally opposing, to hold them on, with the assistance of the thick manifold washers, so the centre flange only needs 3 studs.
Looks like things are pretty tight getting past your engine mount, the front Dizzy engine mounts are further forward on the block.
Good progress.
It's amazing to think how rapid you have progressed on this and yet it has been over a year since you started, lots of work gone in, and I'm sure lots of learning

thats what im iffy about, whether the 3 bolts i can use to hold them on will seal it enough to the gasket etc..... yea its outrageously tight next to the horrible engine mount and steering thing!!!!
you call my progress rapid??? christ its taken me a year! and its still not working, mind you on this site a year is like a few weeks with some of the lengths of others builds!!! one day we can meet and i can visit your lovely collection
your not wrong about the learning bit. i have learned heaps! about as much as brendan and jeremy have learned about tolerance lol
jeremy even bought me a "how stuff works, the car,bike,and truck edition" book thats obviously for ages 10 or less, but what embarrasing is it actually taught me quite a bit

The studs are all the original had to hold it on, the thing to check is the thickness of the flange on the inlet manifold where the washer pulls up and holds the two manifolds to the head, if the inlet flange is thicker than the exhaust one you won't get the pressure on the exhaust and the seal will be compromised. Also use the thick washers that Nissan used, and make sure they don't fowl on any welds or other protrusion on the manifolds.
You'd be welcome to drop round sometime, although would be good if it was after the garage was built and everything was sorted again. I was thinking of you the other day while trying to get my head around the drain in my drive, could have come round then, would have been good

well i have been known to do a smidgeon of the old drainage..... could lend the info in exchange for tolerance, which is what im all about!!!
driveshaft painted and in
fuel tank painted and in
alternator in
bigger radiator mounting bits in
not sure if i mentioned fuel and brake hard lines in front to back with exception of brake booster and carbs not 100% attached at front, small fuel pump debate/stupidity.
waiting on new bit of fuel line from a bloke which should be sorted soon
would have fitted rear interior plastics but due to my brilliance at the deconstruction stage i trashed all the average looking plastic push clip things with the intention of getting brand spankers new ones, so waiting on new ones of them to complete that bit.
weather permitting will paint bootwell area tomorrow/wednesday.in black.
fitted all exterior trim to rear of car, lights, bumper, plate, lights for showing the plate, middle badge already attached.
needing an early finish to get into blacks fasteners for more bolts and washers, then the cover for the gearbox and the carbs/extractors will be permanently on.....at least till the proper strip down again after nationals..... cant afford soft mount kit till after nats so its all on the list.
brendan and scott gave me a bit of grief on sunday, and i needed it, much to my disgust. i really gotta pull finger for this to be ready on time....... weather permitting.

sounds like you are progressing well Luke.
But you have to get in for WOF next week, to give you time to sort any issues.
If you struggle for time *cough* *cough* a sick day from work can help out ....

car has to be running for that to happen!!! still gotta do all the brakes etc, plus the
bleeding of them.
and unfortuneatly my work ethic is a bit to stupid for a sick day, unless i lost an arm my boss knows i wont take a sicky, and he does enjoy visiting on the 3 sick days i have ever had to rub it in that he feels great and i dont..... unfortunatly true
on a plus note, flywheel cover is bolted on along with starter motor, just need brendan for a few beers amount of time to wire it up, then in theory it could be turned over.......

Hey Luke,
I've just reread this thread with a view to writing your Valuation letter.
Two things jump out at me,
Firstly, you have no spring washers on the bolts that hold your brake caliper adapter plates to the strut. This is very important.
And secondly, you've been sold the wrong manifold gasket. Yours is an A15 yeah? A15's have oval intake ports, but it looks to me in the pics like your Gasket has round ports. This will absolutely rape your engines performance at best. At worst you might get a air leak causing Poor engine running.
And I'd also like like to add that now the pressure is off to try have it on the road for Akaroa, you MUST pretty up your rocker cover. Damn it ugly.

FIRST AND FOREMOST........ the reason no spring washers are on bolts id cos i need the right length bolts before i commit, those are simply there for locating etc plus a reference to thread sizing etc etc.
secondly.... i suspected as much with the gasket issue, this will be remedied once i have a new garage to work from as tearing car apart again will just be a pain in the ass to move.
as for the rocker cover............ will it add value????????? sometimes......SOMETIMES..... im not as stupid or drunk as i may appear
