brocky41 wrote:Hey luke if that engine came with all the efi hardware etc - just run it lol - or youll be forever changing and modding stuff and not being able to drive it, IE my 1200.

You can get some pretty good "Duuuooooooouuuuutttt" out of standard efi (like your tricked up vtec non vtec hondas) if thats what your after.
What you do is you drive it at half throttle up to about 4000rpm then floor it and bystanders be all like "VTEC just kicked in yo!"

Or so I'm told...

hahaha vtec datsun anyone? NOPE!

it comes with nothing induction related except a water cut? flange plate for someone to weld up a manifold.

hence the hunt!

john you will be pleased to know im selling ONE of my bikes to fund this toy

Man people give hondas such a hard time.
If it wasn't for the fact they spin the opposite way round to other engines i bet there would be a pile of Vtec powered Datsuns out there as it is theres a few F20C powered ones. Honda do one thing better than anyone else make good NA engines.

Anyway im extremely looking forwards to this conversion i think it will be awesome, GA engines are so plentiful and trouble free, (providing you get the muilti point injection one and not the one with the AFM on the throttle body (they a pile of shit).
And i love shit thats different and new. Keep up the good work and more photos.

just buy the standard intake side of things and the ecu etc as brocky said and just get the throttle body on the plenum cut and welded to the opposite end so it points in the right direction. Then it will be cheap and easy to get running and with a big old pod filter it will make cool dort noises and go pretty blimmin well in a little datsun. Plus these motors are bulletproof and stupidly reliable

hahahaha brilliant rant! honda do make impressive top end power for na engines no denying it!!!!!, hit the nail on the head with the engine comment.

i think the stereotype described by broke is unfortunately far too common these days esp as i see it daily in my area by an integra, its like the fantastic rotary powered anything, the major population of those owners (based in chch) are rocking that flat peak hat, that peroxide mrs in the passenger seat, and that OTT exhaust tip. stereotyped for a reason lol.

as for the GA16something...... it is a big win, whole engine on the expensive side is $300 from a wrecker. nobody wants them as they are fwd hahaha. plus after a lot of research i can claim another 40-50hp with reground cams/expensive premade cams/ecu/timing/pulleys/1995-1999 head/ etc etc the list goes on. and thats with standard efi setup!

with the multipoint injection wouldnt that be induction related issue? if so i could just visit pickapart and get one of the 10 engines induction there that doesnt have the afm/throttlebody issue...? im not sure.

selling a bike soon so hopefully after talking to skdmrx last night i can throw money at him to have a look to see if he can make me something for the 4age itbs kitch has kindly donated my way (BIG THANKS BTW MATE! ) i.e. GA16-4age manifold. or i splash out the big coin and get that extrudabody kit that. again. kitch teased with.

Its also occurred to me that i havent expressed my full ish plans......

ultimate engine plans will be.....

(factory engine hp is 110hp flywheel)

1994 or below GA16de block

1995 or up head (larger ports). +5hp

reground cams from .342" lift/208" duration to .345" lift/263" duration. +7hp right across the revs.

set timing to 15degrees +5hp mid range +2hp top end UNTIL i get the ecu thing sorted

Reflashed ecu/megasquirt/link/whatever raises the rev limiter from 6800 to 7500. which is when, mixed with the cams, this can produce up to another +40hp between 6k and 7.5k rpm - reduce timing back to 11degrees

Headers - flashy aftermarket ones about +10hp/mine....unknown

exhaust/muffler unknown yet

intake manifold/exhaust spacers from Outlaw Engineering +better running and possible hp

THIS IS ALL WITH THE STANDARD EFI SETUP. STANDARD INTERNALS.(except cams...)
mine will have itbs so unknown what will happen there in terms of hp.

you may all think im being optimistic with all these numbers in terms of hp but iv studied up a lot in the last while due to a lot of spare time being forced apon me, and looked all over the internet trying to find upgrades.

iv got hold of a write up online about a guy that worked one of these ridiculously  .....so proof im not entirely stupid about my hopes in terms of hp. :dance2:

http://web.archive.org/web/200503052035 ... engine.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

ACTUAL plans will probably be get it running in the car on standard efi or carbs but with everything there to go efi when need be.
AND FIND A FLIPPING DIFF. :strangle:

big post but it gives you all something to read and see where i plan to go with this setup. and then if it works il be making another for the ute.

These days? I learnt this trick from a DA5 Integra owner circa 1998! I thought with the affordability of actual VTEC engines it had all but died out! I certainly wasn't dissing Hondas, just relating some of my awesome 90's boy-racing techniques.

Next week: Putting your auto car in neutral at the lights and rolling back for a moment before putting it in drive so that people think you have a manual.
