You are building the car for yourself, and like me you got tangled up with doing things properly as you went and not cutting corners. your end result is quite different to your original intention of a motor recondition and rust removal / paint job

To be fair I was your worst mentor through this process! (remember those 'free' throttle bodies....)

Good restoration builds ain't cheap, and cheap restoration builds ain't good!.

yeah....... you dick. that free set turned into a lot of custom alloy fabrication..........

was gonna sneak off to the southern cruise but decided that more progress on the coupe would pay off.

So another update........
been super poor as of late, so couldnt afford more sound deadener........... but then kitch to the rescue!! txt and said he had a couple panels spare... sent me up exactly enough dynamat superlite to deal to my doors this afternoon. and have managed to get all deadener to past the rear seat. have also sprayed the fuck out of the door inners at the bottom with stupendous amounts of fish oil to try prevent any rust even though, yes i know, on a quiet night you can almost hear them rusting. :deadhorse:
will be placing an order with autodec very soon for moulded carpet and underlay if anyone is keen on bulk buy/save on shipping etc? will put up a post anyways. i think one more ratmat kit will have rear quarters and boot all sorted out so thats on the cards asap as i will be picking up my finished seats on monday!! :P

so i know :useless:
so here is some pointless images to keep everyone happy

nice work grasshopper!

So I remembered over the dynamat superlite, I have Pyrotek Wavebar Quadzero mass loaded vinyl with built in foam decoupler layer;
http://www.pyroteknc.com/prevent-noise- ... dzero.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Then Autodec precut carpet kit over autodec conventional underlay

I have written a splurb on this some time ago on my build thread, but the dynamat / rat mat is not sound proofing as such,
it is used to reduce panel vibration, and transmission of noise from the outside through the panels etc, thats why you dont need to cover every area, just main panels etc, although cause it looks cool, people (myself included) cover everything they can.

Here is a good site for reading & understanding a bit more:
http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I think your approach with new window rubbers etc, will still make for a more comfortable than factory ride anyway
You can always retrofit the MLV layer later anyway

I may have a few of the special carpet hold down domes left that I Brought off Lewis.

They are expensive little suckers, but they are a nice discrete way to hold carpet in place

The good:

Seats all redone and pretty arrived monday night.
Final ratmat sound deadener kit arrived on friday morning.
Autodec carpet kit with underlay arrived friday morning.

Dan has said in 7 weeks he will do the wiring, and gave me the all clear to fit my dash, which means i can do all my windows!
already purchased most window rubbers about 9 months ago so im set there.

Go outside after work today and start tidying the interior so i can fit all my new goodies so full of motorvation and really keen to be making a bit of progress on this thing.........only to find by the accelerator pedal............. one massive buzzkill.

The bad:

FUCKING RUST. (worse than the regular kind)
It had been bogged over both inside AND outside the holes and painted over, so hence why i missed it when tearing the thing to pieces and bare metalling it. dedicated warrant attempt i assume.
I have cut out some ratmat (fuck what a job) :deadhorse: that shit is sticky and determined.
Panicked and ripped up the other side as well to see if that seam had any hidden hatred left. it did. better to find it i guess.

Its not bad fortunatly, but is very frustrating considering the amount of work me (mostly others) have put in to this project, it kinda sucks. now i will tell anybody to sand/sodablast a bare shell.

pictures of the small but annoying rust holes.

gotta say though, wal is a proper gentleman. i rang him as soon as i found all this and he will be popping over monday evening to sort it all out for me. lifesaver! need to have shell enclosed for towing purposes.... dont want to loose a screen :oops:

only delays me a few days which is okay. interior completed this year was actually a realistic goal!

on a side note, anyone here do fuel lines? will be using the factory line as the return, just need another feed line run. thanks!

Running a hardline is a job that not many enjoy.
it might be worthwhile doing a braided line instead. Unfortunately, all the peeps I know who used to work in that feild no longer do.

Feel your pain there Luke, I've had the same issue with the rust (different spot though). I remember thinking the price of blasting/dipping was ridiculous at the time, now I wish I could go back in time and have my shell acid dipped before doing anything else on it.

And yeah, the hard line thing - I decided that when I get around to doing mine I'm going to buy some of that alloy bundy tube off ebay. Figured I could just run it next to the old line and use two P-clamps at each mounting point to hold them to the car. To do what I did with Greg's car would cost megabucks now.
