I was thinking that with the kms on that donor A15, it'd really be getting ready for a valve job. But doing a valve job on a (well) used motor will cause it to become an oil hog. So it'd really need a rering too. You could chuck that cam in it, but aside from that it sort of has to be all or nothing with used motors.

Also, broke the crank pulley (and its still not off)...do A series share the same one? ie can i rob an A12/J15 i have in 'stock'

the crush rings on a-series headgaskets are ovaluated from new, i dont know why but thats how they are.
so no head overtightening issues

Crank pulleys are the same through a12/a14/a15.

I have a couple of pullers to get the crank pulleys off. Have you removed the slugs? Are there any verticle scratch marks/scoring on the skirts? If a motor gets overheated badly, the piston grows in the bore, and all the oil gets forced out from between thre skirt and the bore wall. This wears the piston, and can lead to skirt failure. But A series motors gizzards can take a fucking and keep on trucking! If you remove the pistons, remember what I told you about the ridge in the bore. If the top ring jambs on the ridge in the bore, it'll damage the ring land on your piston, and although it may still be reusable, you'll suffer from blowby. (Which is uber gay) And any combustion gas which blows past the rings it lost horsepower..............

Its absolutely mint then!
Just a bare block now, the smallest puller i had popped it straight off.
Bores, bearings, cam and rings are sweet..shouldnt have pulled it down!!!
Now its apart ill start cleaning and inspecting all super-sleuth like.

Brendan, thats awesome news! Weird as hell, but Awesome!
