Right
Got my turbo rebuild kit > need to put in the turbo now so watch this space......
and its time for a big Arse external waste gate to hold me over until i can buy a $1100 turbo
Upgrading or building a bits turbo is too expensive so its time for me to save my money.
but by fitting a nice 40mm wastegate onto my manifold it means i can run the factory T3 & not get any over boost problems
Here is somebody Else's setup but I think the same thing can be done much tidier
This also means the next turbo will be external gated

Nice z man, um as far as budget turbo choices go, if you want a great wee brand new turbo I can't recommend the chinese dsr380 enough. it's very powerful, amazingly robust ( speaking from both my own experience and also close mates of mine who have cained them without a single failure ) it have the option of differant exhaust housings aswell. great turbo to just run until you have enough $$ for a switzer/greedy or holset. Don't waste your money on BB garrets, there a throwaway item when there bearings start to go. When your ready to upgrade you can flick the dsr380 on trademe for 2/3rds of what you payed for it new so that's another upside.

I bought some diff parts of a guy from NZ silvia who was running a DSR. He said he'd never own another one. It was on a CA18det pumping 330hp atw. He reckoned it shit out quite bad, and was causing him to lose power compared with a brand name turbo. PLus they told him to eat a dick for the warrantee cos he had no receipt for it's installation, despite being a mechanic by trade himself. long story short, you get what you pay for I guess.

I don't need a Ball Bearing Garret
Just a Journal Bearing one is fine for me, i have spoken to a few different shops that rebuild turbo's and it seems a Journal Bearings Garrett or similar turbonetics is the way to go.
for$1200 for a TA3010 it dosn't even seem worth it to bother with a DSR or similar turbo at $500
also the chinease turbos seem to be sized for an RB25 at the most with small exhaust housing available as options but not exhaust housings in the bigger sizes ie you can get a 0.63 t3/t3 which is fine for an RB25DET but not for the VG30
my VG might not be a twin cammer but the cams in it are quite big on lift.
This will also be my 3rd turbo and im getting really pissed off changing them every 5 minutes.
I have heard that some Chinese turbos go really well, but its a bit of a lottery as to which one will last and which one will blow apart in spectacular fashion

Oh that is interesting bart, either way all the gen2 dsrs iv seen have proven to be very good and have 360 thrusts so hold together under higher boost levels. I have absolutely nothing against them because they've proven themselves very reliable before my own eyes even upto 18psi. And they do come with a larger .86 housing so that would be alot more suitable for a vg I would have thought? Yeah the greedy, switzer and holset turbos are where it's at my friend and all of them are generally journal bearing. Turbonetics turbos are no better than just the run of the mill chinese turbos really to be honest. The journal garrets are sweet tho.BB turbos arnt rebuildable as I'm sure you prob already know, you have too spend over a grand on a new core when it starts packing in.

Are you going to be using that modified exhaust housing and downpipe again? I'm interested in buying them for my R30 if you aren't. Also can I ask where you got your wheels from? A set like that would look awesome on my Z.

Hi DJZ
Everything is for sale at the right price.
I have actually listed those wheels on trade me last week to see what interest there was in them.
give me a call and we can talk turkey if you are interested in them 021 022 856 77
I will be really sad to sell those wheels but i need a proper reliable turbo setup before fancy wheels.
also regarding the downpipe i had thoughts of using that downpipe and turbo on my diesel surf but i could be interested in letting it for the right price.
The downpipe and turbo sort of go togeather as a set as they can only be used on each other ( 7 bolt nissan t3 )
I am going to throw a rebuild kit in my spare t3 turbo so i could possibly do a deal as a rebuilt t3 & down pipe adaptor.
Once again give me a call and we can talk about it.
Cheers
James
