been too long since i updated this thread.....
Ran the engine in just in time for a fluid swap before helping kitch drive coupes in timaru for a guys wedding.
It ran exceptionally well on final kms to barrys bay and back, wth a small hiccup.
was overtaking some trucks before the little river pub and boom, a cylinder just went on me.
Nursed it to little river garage and popped the hood, one of the unifilter socks had been partially sucked into the trumpet which in turn fouled the plug. tore the fucker off and bought an outrageously pricey but correct spark plug.
then continued on my mission to barrys bay, went up and over the hill and what an animal it was, drifted uphill even. hasnt had final tune yet so around 5k rpm there was still a flat spot in the rev range for a bit, that all but disapeared without the filter on one trumpet for some reason.
Drove to the wedding the next day minus one filter and didnt miss a beat all weekend, met up with the rakaia cruise in time and missioned to the blue pub at some naughty speeds. had to cut trip short unfortuneatley due to home commitments but she still ran good etc.
TODAY ..........
Neighbor with an evo 4 does trackdays couple times a month and convinced me to tag along mid week.
Bit of a fizzing moment for me when the official track photographer came running over asking if i would be going out in it and not spectating, and came in the coupe with me for the few sighting laps videoing and picturing etc. i accidentley drifted a few corners with him as the track was lacking grip till lunchtime. he loved it.
Wanted to just not be last by end of the day and made it.
Overtook a couple of primeras, an offroad race truck on slicks (mental) and even a camaro a couple times, primeras on the straights too! me and the camaro had lots of fun, he had the speed but apparently i had a lot less weight and different lines to keep up/ overtake mid track.
Only slid out completely once on the first rhd bend after hairpin, the grip was poor until lunchtime. and i was hot off an overtake i did not expect, and my line wasnt the best.
bogged down again on the straight then popped out this black ball of shit so pulled in and another 2 unifilters had COMPLETELY sucked the face of the filters through the engine. pulled the final one off and she still ran really well with no noticeable flat spot??? also found out from a primera driver my fuel cap has a ripped seal and i had to keep swapping out rags to stop all my fuel siphoning out around lhd bends.....
Managed a personal best of 1.58.5 but consistant 1.59s and gps top speed was 174.3kmph. know i can make up more time in several places. beat my neighbors best time of the day by a second too! (she was having a very off day) still counts!
i didnt take any photos sorry

Luke,
Are you planning on doing the April Trackday?
Be good to have a couple of Datsuns out there.
These are a great event for anyone else interested. You get exceptionally good value for money with bulk track time- in fact most people are well and truly done and dusted before the day ends.
Cheers
Dave

This sounds like a bit of fun Dave. What are the specifics? Could be good to get some Datsun interest

Just really the basics. If the car is upto WOF standard and the battery is tied down there really isn't too much else other than helmet and overalls. Have a look at the website

All sorts of cars with all sorts of driving levels but everyone is there for the same reason-FUN!
Cheers
Dave
