Classic Dat the driveshaft hoop doesn't hang down at all, its higher than the gearbox mount, definitely wont get struck from underneath. The material is 150 diameter 4340 bright, it cost $375 for 400mm, that includes a $15 cut and shipping from Auckland as no one in Christchurch could supply it. it worked out way cheaper for me to make them and in doing so its now 35mm shaft and commodore axle spline so should be more than strong enough. I was considering making a couple of sets but just dont have the time.

Pretty impressive stuff you're doing there.

I've seen a few Americans trying a few different approaches to the stub axle problem, mostly using bearings off newer cars where the whole bearing/hub assembly bolts on to the arm. I think the idea is to avoid having to mess around with the bearing spacer tube, which apparently needs to be matched to the arm it came out of.

Keep the updates coming.

I looked into using taper roller bearings like front wheel bearings but would end up overloading them when torquing it all up. And if they were torqued to the wheel bearing specs the c.vs would wear out the spline very quickly it would have to be done like a diff pinion with a crush tube.

So got some z31 5 stud hubs today off karl, so that changed my plans a bit, bolted them on and turns out the mitsubishi rotors i had fit and with the hilux calipers its all bolt up just need a 1.5mm spacer between the caliper and strut. i was stoked to find a full bolt up kit but then i noticed it!!!!!!! my rims wont fit!!!! so the hilux caliper being a 4pot means it sticks forward of the hub quite a bit meaning i would have to run spaces to clear them and then the rims would stick way out of the guards. So back to the drawing board i think what ill do is make an adapter to line the caliper up with the strut bolt ears then make a spacer to set the rotor back 20mm then it should all fit with the rims i have. that is if Donn Hoff approves it. Btw you wont find out what rims i have until the day it rolls out of my shed, All i can say is they are chrome ;)

Been a busy weekend again, was in at work again on saturday, this time i finished the rear stubs and modified some citroen rotors to fit my hubs. After work monday ill be off to penfolds to get the splines cut on the stubs (we havnt got the cutters at work to do this) Brakes wise im going with a 300x24mm rotor off a citroen of somesort, the rotor required the bore being opened up and new pcd drilling. And for calipers i have the hilux ones but they are only designed for a 22mm rotor but i can get the 24mm to fit or find a 4pot caliper to fit, maybe some skyline calipers? im not too sure what sizes they are for. And today i re engraved my gearknob to match the t56. i couldnt think of anything worse than to have someone crash it from getting reverse mixed up. I also got the horn working, second throttle spring in and engine loom grommet done.

At it again, getting close now! Machined up some break caliper adapters and right length spaces for the rear stubs which got spline cut during the week, Steering box wasnt ready so couldnt get that in. Fitted new studs to all the hubs and new bearings. Then i dropped it off the axle stands to see how it sits, its been a while since its been on the ground, the rear tyres look mint but the fronts sit out the guards a bit far so will have to sort that out and might get higher fronts to fill the guards better.

Exciting times!!! Rolled her out of the shed today, got the bonnet and bumper on then finished tacking up the tail pipes. waiting on the rear axles to get shortened then i can drive it around the driveway to test the brakes which for some reason seem to bleed off pressure after about 5-10 minutes even though there are no leaks, my only other explanation could be air in the master still just not too sure on the bleeding process for a fully drained system.

Progress has been slow, Ive had overheating issues for the past 2 weeks, first off was an airlock in the engine which caused it to blow all the coolant out the overflow. so new thermostat and bled carefully then i found out my ECU wasnt turning on the cooling fans which lead to overheat number 2. after a week of chasing wires and re doing the cooling fan wiring aswell as getting the ECU checked i got no where. then today i plugged it all back in and fired it up and sure enough the fans worked!!!! turns out it was just a dirty plug on the engine. Anyway i stuffed up one of the axle lengths so have to get one remade so that had me annoyed for a while. ill hopefully get the new one wednesday next week. oh and on a positive note the guy who painted my car came over and gave it a full cut, polish and wax and it came up amazing. dont mind the front bumper im not sure what im gonna do there but it will be enough for cert.
